02 Laboratory Exercise 1-Logic-Circuit

This document provides instructions for a laboratory exercise on logic gates and Boolean algebra. Students are asked to simplify two Boolean expressions by applying techniques like the absorption law, consensus theorem, and removing duplicates. They are to write the step-by-step work and draw the simplified logic diagram. The first expression simplifies to D(B + C̅) and the second to AC + AD + A̅BD.

Laboratory Exercise
Logic Gates and Boolean Algebra
Objectives:
At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
 Solve the Boolean expression based on the logic gates and its combination; and
 Simplify complex logic expressions through Boolean Algebra.
Materials:
 Pen and Paper
Instructions (65 points):
Provide step-by-step solutions to the following problems. Write your answers on the space provided, or use a different sheet
of paper. Simplify the following equations using the Boolean Algebra technique and draw the logic diagram of the simplified
function. (65 pts.)

1. 𝐹 = 𝐵𝐷 + 𝐶̅𝐷 + 𝐵𝐶 𝐷 + 𝐵 𝐶𝐷 (29 pts.)

2. 𝐹 = 𝐴𝐵𝐶 + 𝐴𝐷 + 𝐴 ̅ 𝐵 𝐷 + 𝐶̅𝐷 (36 pts.)

1. F = BD + C̅ D + BCD + BCD
Step 1: Remove duplicates
F = BD + C̅ D + BCD

Step 2: Apply the Absorption

Law F = BD + C̅ D

Step 3: Apply the Absorption Law again

F = D(B + C̅ )

Simplified Function:
F = D(B + C̅ )

Logic Diagram:
[BD] ----> (OR Gate) ----> [D(B + C̅ )]

2. F = ABC + AD + A̅ BD + C̅ D

Step 1: Apply the Absorption Law

F = ABC + AD + A̅ BD + C̅ D

Step 2: Apply the Absorption Law again

F = ABC + AD + A̅ BD

Step 3: Apply the Consensus Theorem

F = AC + AD + A̅ BD

Simplified Function:
F = AC + AD + A̅ BD

Logic Diagram:
[AC] ----> (OR Gate) ----> [AD] ----> (OR Gate) ----> [A̅ BD]
