● Lead to succession crisis, with • Harold’s English forces clashed
with William’s Normans

the English throne. Harold was killed in the battle

Norman Conquest
● A strong feudal monarchy was established
● The ruling class: Norman nobility and
clergy

became serfs.

The Anglo - Saxon
Composed their own popular poetry, contains 2 main
genres:
● Fabliaux : funny stories about town-people
● Bestiaries: stories in which characters were animals
King Arthur and the Knights of
the Round Table
● a legendary tale rooted in medieval British and
Celtic folklore
● revolves around King Arthur, a noble and just
ruler, and his legendary knights who gathered
at the Round Table.

● Based on the Bible and served as a teaching
and instructional resources for worship
