NOTES: 1. All listed specifications and standards shall conform to the latest edition.
2. Line size shall not be less than 3” dia. except for instrument connections, steam purge connections
and sample lines.

3. Steam purge line check valves shall be selected from the appropriate steam service piping
classification standard. (Do not use stainless steel check valves).

4. The end prep. for pipe and fittings shall be in accordance with Paragraph 7.5 of Specification
4S-02.01.

5. Includes the use of swaged nipples in any combination of ends within the confines of this Class
Sheet. See Typical Detail 4D-03.02.

6. Black liquor piping systems with greater than 65% solids shall have pipe bends with a radius of
5 times the nominal diameter (no miters), or as indicated on isometric.

7. All valves installed must have a provision to be lock-able in the field for safety isolation. The valve
supplier shall provide this locking device with the valve.

8. Install purge connections at valves complete with drains.

10. All screwed valves/connections to be back-welded. (Threaded joints which are to be back-welded,
shall be made up without any thread compounds)..

11. Note this has been determined to be a Category M Fluid Service all relevant requirements of ASME
Code B31. 3 apply. Particular attention must be made to required radiography, testing and
checkout requirements.

 Do not permit contact with acidic materials
 Vessels which have contained black liquor should be checked for hydrogen sulfide before entering

 SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES


IF SPILL OR LEAK OCCURS, IMMEDIATELY CONSULT MILL ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL DEPARTMENT
 Never neutralize spill with acid or divert to acid containing sewer
 Contact with acids can result in release of potentially lethal concentrations of hydrogen sulfide gas
 Ventilate spill area
 Spills will make floors very slippery

 WASTE DISPOSAL
 Dilute and flush to an approved treatment system as per mill requirements

PERSONNEL PROTECTION
 Wear chemical worker's goggles and rubber gloves
 Other protective equipment such as aprons, boots, face shields or rubber suits may be needed when handling large
amounts of this material
 Eyewash stations and safety showers should be readily accessible near use areas
