THE COLON (:)

A colon has three main uses. It is often used to


introduce a list.
Example: I love candy: mints, jellybeans, and gum.

Add the colons to the examples below.


1. When I go camping I need all these things a
sleeping bag, a flashlight, a pan, and a lighter.
2. I like bright colours red, orange, yellow, and
green.
3. Mrs. Bob bought lots fruit apples, pears and
4. bananas.
5. I like everything about the seaside the sea, the
sand and the rocks.
6. My new mountain bike is so cool, it has 12 gears,
front and rear suspension and its light.
THE COLON (:)
A colon is used to introduce an explanation or
reference to first part of a sentence.
Example: He told me his problem: he is very lonely.

1. The audience left the theatre the bell had rung.
2. That math exercise is difficult I do not
understand algebra.
3. As soon as the director heard her sing he knew
here was a star.
4. Tom was glad his football shirt was red and
white his favourite colours.

finish it.
