Safe Operating Procedure – Scissor Lift Table
Scissor lift tables raise, position and transport workloads to minimise risk of injury. This manual handling aid can be used to lift
both light and heavy (not more than rated capacity) workloads. DO NOT use this manual handling aid unless you have been
trained in its safe use and operation.
Potential Hazards
• Repetition of movement • Sprains and strains injuries • Heavy awkward objects
• Awkward posture • Slip trips or falls • Duration of task
• Ergonomic injuries • Crush and pinch injuries • Musculoskeletal disorders
Personal Protective Equipment
Enclosed and/or non-slip footwear must
Do not tilt the unit
be worn
Workers must also apply appropriate PPE as per other information such as:
• Safety data sheets • Manual handling aid SOPs
• Labels
Pre-operational Inspection
Before use:
1. Visually check the Scissor Lift Table for scratches, bent parts or cracking
2. Visually check if there is any oil leakage from the cylinder (indicator would be oil on floor)
3. Check the smooth movement of the castors
4. Check the brake function operates correctly
5. Check the vertical creep of the table and check for scratches, cracks, debris, etc.
6. Check all the bolt and nuts are tightened firmly
Immediately report damage or unsafe conditions to your supervisor. Ensure the scissor lift table is removed from service
and tagged with a DO NOT USE tag until necessary repairs have been completed by a competent person
Pre-operational Safety Checks
For your safety, read, understand, and follow the information provided with and on this hydraulic scissor
lift table before use.
1. Use proper lifting techniques when loading/unloading and operating the scissor lift table
2. No person should get any part of the body under a load that is supported by this hydraulic scissor lift trolley
3. Do not overload this hydraulic scissor lift trolley beyond its rated capacity (157kg). Overloading beyond the rated capacity
can cause damage to or failure of the hydraulic scissor lift table
4. Use only on hard level surfaces. Use on other than hard level surfaces can result in hydraulic scissor lift table instability and
wheel damage
5. Do not allow people to sit or ride on the hydraulic scissor lift table
6. Do not transport heavy loads in the raised position
7. Keep hands and feet clear of the hydraulic scissor lift table hinge mechanism and ground contact area when lowering the
load
8. Ensure castor brakes are engaged when loading and unloading
9. Use the right product for the job. There are certain applications for which the scissor lift table was designed. Do not modify
or use it for a purpose for which it was not intended
10. Failure to comply with the above warnings may result in personal injury and/or property damage.

Operation:
1. Check the route you are taking is clear and free from hazards before you begin to move your load
2. Verify that the product, load and application are compatible
3. ALWAYS brake the lift table via the brake lever on the right-side swivel castor
4. Centre and secure the load on the table surface
5. The hydraulic scissor lift tabletop is raised by pumping the foot lever
6. Note: you may need to occasionally purge any air in the hydraulic system by pumping up and down 3-5 times with the
release lever squeezed open to release air from the hydraulic pump
7. To lower the hydraulic scissor lift tabletop, pull the release lever fully. This allows the table to lower in a slow, controllable
manner
8. When pushing the scissor lift trolley:
9. Move no faster than walking speed
10. Keep your feet well away from the load
11. Check your surroundings and ensure you have a clear path
12. CAUTION ALWAYS:
13. Ensure castor wheel brakes are engaged prior to loading and unloading
14. Ensure your hands are clear from the release handle while lifting and lowering
Housekeeping
1. Wipe down scissor lift tabletop and handle
2. Return all tools and equipment including PPE to the correct storage location
3. Ensure walkways and work area is clean and tidy
4. Put all rubbish in suitable waste bin
Always leave the working area in a safe, clean and tidy state
