Petfalls (Problem Statement)

Pet parents in India have a tough time finding trusted veterinarians who are
also affordable. Getting quick access to veterinarians and pets' medicines is
a task that requires one to spend anywhere between 1 to 3 hours to travel to
the vet, wait for their turn and then search for medicines. It isn't any easier to
find and get x-rays, sonography or other pathological tests done. Lastly, pet
parents have a hard time finding verified pet sitters, pet boardings and
groomers who can be trusted to look after their pets' needs with love and
care.
About the industry
• India’s pet care market is growing at 13.9% annually, making it one of the fastest-growing pet care markets in the world.
• It is estimated that India’s pet care industry will reach $800 million by 2025.
• By 2022, India’s pet care industry was projected to reach $490 million.
• Dogs are the most popular pet in India, with an estimated 31 million pet dogs projected by the end of 2023.
• Cats are the second most popular pet in India, owned by 20% of pet owners.

Competitive landscape

• During our research, we found there were only 4 companies that offer wellness services such
as pet sitting, pet boarding, pet walking and grooming. Out of which only 1 operates at a
national level and the other 3 operate at a city level.
• For healthcare, there are only 3 established companies out of which 2 function at a city level
and only 1 functions at a national level.
• Most of these companies were established in or after 2017.
• Pet Backers has 2 million to 5 million dollars since getting established in 2017.
• Pet Nest was established in 2019 and has over 800 veterinary doctors and more than 1,000
pet groomers who work on a commission basis across more than 25 cities across India.
• Veteva was established in 2020 and the product was launched in January 2023.
