SUSTAINABILITY
PAVILION
Drawing inspiration from complex natural processes like
photosynthesis, the dynamic form of the Pavilion is in service
to its function, capturing energy from sunlight and fresh
water from humid air.
Sited in a prominent location, the Pavilion structure works in
tandem with the considered landscape of demonstration
gardens, winding pathways and shaded enclaves to create an
aura of magic punctuated by the sights, smells and tactile
opportunities of nature.
The gardens are both experiential and functional, setting the
stage for the exhibition contents within and creating shaded an installation of Energy Trees which contribute

providing retail, food and beverage opportunities.

JAPAN PAVILION
Japanese culture and learning have been influenced by
external influences since ancient times, as ideas from the
outside have been embraced and reinterpreted to create
something new and unique.
As a country that has taken on many challenges in the
process of its development, Japan has already devised
the means for resolving various issues. Building on this
knowhow, it is now putting new questions to the world,
encouraging empathy and taking the initiative in
seeking out answers.
At the Japan Pavilion, visitors will experience examples
of such encounters, empathy and actions.
Japan hope to impart some insight to each person toward solving issues and
living in harmony in tomorrow’s world

JAPAN PAVILION ARCHITECTURE
Fusing design from Asia and the Middle East
• The white origami-like facade of the building was designed by Yuko
Nagayama.
• An elegant fusion of Asian and Arabian designs, the Japan Pavilion is
enclosed within a rectangular façade that resembles folded white
origami.
• This textured, three-dimensional shade structure is made of a paper-
like membrane, and draws inspiration from both Japanese Asanoha
hemp leaf patterns and Islamic geometric designs.
• The technological aspect of the design is in sustainable architecture.
• An expanse of water surrounding the Japan Pavilion serves as a natural
cooling system. The water itself has a second aesthetic role: reflecting
the facade. The white lattice also has two roles: an aesthetic one and a
technical one in blocking and filtering the sunlight.

CONCEPT IDEATION
MY CONCEPT
Mix of Japanese Origami with Traditional Arabesque patterns.
Japan’s one of most traditional craft is origami. So I am planning to use
Arabesque patterns and design an origami architecture for the Japan
Pavilion Expo. Arabesque patterns
taken for inspiration
The Japan Pavilion is known as ‘Paper House’, since the inspiration is
origami. So the material used to construct the expo is Watertight Skin.
The dome outside is made of watertight skin, which exists of a PVC-
coated polyester fabric that is tightened over the cardboard skeleton.
I am planning to use dome shape and at top there will be transparent
glass to allow sunlight inside.
Inside the side will be reflecting the light which comes from the top
glass, inside the side are made of reflecting material. So in day the expo
entrance will have natural lighting. watertight skin
During night there will be beautiful lighting for the expo which makes
the expo as white palace.
