Question:

1. What type of product or service is featured in your ad?

- Axe Body Spray

2. What message does this ad give the consumer?

- The ad conveys that using "Axe Body spray" will evoke a sense of sophistication, confidence,
and allure. It suggests that this fragrance will enhance the wearer's overall presence and leave
a lasting impression.

3. In what ways, if any, could any part of this advertisement impact a person’s body image? (e.g.
you could take into consideration: the product itself, the models selling it, the way it is being
presented, etc.)
- Perfume ads, though primarily centered on fragrance, can still influence body image. The
presence of confident and alluring models may lead individuals to associate these qualities with
wearing the fragrance, potentially affecting how men view their own confidence and
sophistication.
What is It
Activity 3

1. The ad emphasizes the urgency of sanitation for global well-being. Reminds the middle
adolescent like me to appreciate basic amenities and recognize their role in advocating for
change. These ads instill a sense of purpose and show the potential impact even young
individuals can have. This lesson shifts perception about ads, highlighting their potential to raise
awareness about critical global issues and prompting a more critical view of their messages. It
reinforces the belief in advertising as a tool for positive change.

2. The McDonald's hamburger drive-thru ad primarily conveys messages related to

convenience. For middle adolescent like me, it presents fast food as an easily accessible option
for satisfying cravings, especially during busy or on-the-go moments. The ad may create an
association between McDonald's and quick, enjoyable dining experiences. It also reinforces the
idea that consuming fast food can be a norm in contemporary lifestyles.

3. The GUCCI Guilty Perfumes & Fragrance ad targets adolescents, promoting a sense of
luxury, sophistication, and individuality through their products. It suggests that wearing these
fragrances can enhance personal style and confidence, appealing to the adolescent desire for
self-expression and recognition. However, it's important to remember that true value lies in
personal preference and individual identity, not just association with luxury brands.

4. The vapeshop ad likely conveys messages related to vaping products, potentially suggesting
a sense of trendiness, rebellion, and social acceptance. For middle adolescents, it may imply
that using vaping products is a way to fit in or be part of a certain social group. The ad might
also suggest that vaping is a modern and stylish lifestyle choice, catering to the desire for
independence and the need to establish a unique identity during adolescence.

5. The ad by Facebook emphasizes the impact of using the 'like' feature on the platform, urging
middle adolescents to be mindful of potentially hurting someone's feelings. It encourages
considerate online interactions and values of empathy and digital citizenship. This lesson has
changed the perception of ads, highlighting their potential to convey socially responsible
messages and promote positive behavior in the digital realm. It emphasizes that advertising can
serve a purpose beyond consumerism, focusing on social responsibility and digital ethics.

What’s More
Question:

1. What did you learn today about mental health challenges that you did not know before this
class began?
- Through this class, I've gained a comprehensive understanding of various mental health
challenges. I now know that conditions like ADHD can affect focus and impulsivity, but
individuals can learn to manage it with strategies or professional help. Anxiety disorders,
characterized by sudden, intense feelings of fear, can lead to panic attacks, but treatment and
support are available. Autism Spectrum Disorder can impact social interactions and sensitivity to
touch, but those affected can excel in other areas. Bi-Polar Disorder involves extreme mood
swings, while depression leads to persistent feelings of sadness, both of which can be managed
with proper care. Eating disorders go beyond body image concerns, involving complex
emotional and psychological elements. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can cause ongoing fear
even after a traumatic event, but with time and support, individuals can find healing. Finally,
Schizophrenia can distort perception of reality, but therapy and medication can greatly improve
one's quality of life. This class has provided invaluable insights into the complexity of mental
health challenges and the importance of seeking help and understanding for those affected.

2. “People facing mental health challenges are just like everybody who wants to be a friend and
have friends with; helping people with mental health challenges can get better and live normal
lives.” Share your thoughts on this.
- People who face mental health difficulties are just like everyone else. They want to make
friends and have people to be friends with. By supporting people with mental health challenges,
they can improve and live regular lives. It shows that with help, they can be happy and do things
just like everyone else. This idea is very important for making sure everyone feels accepted and
understood.

serious mental health issue, possibly depression and suicidal thoughts.

- Yes, his actions and statements suggest that he is in a very difficult and potentially dangerous
situation.

- It's important to take your his words seriously and seek help for him as soon as possible. Talk
to someone about the situation, like a trusted adult, a school counselor, or a mental health
professional. His safety is the top priority.

4. Present things to do when someone you know may harm himself /herself.
- When someone I know is showing signs of self-harm or suicidal thoughts, I would stay by their
side if possible, to let them know I care and are there to support them. Encourage them to seek
help. It's crucial to involve a trusted adult, like a parent, teacher, or school counselor, who can
assist in getting them the help they need. Ensure the environment is safe by removing any
potential dangers. And support in a non-judgmental and understanding manner, letting them
know their feelings are valid. While it's important to respect their trust, don't promise complete
secrecy; their safety is the top priority.

What I Can Do
Activity 6

Dear Tired at School,

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with sleep and feeling exhausted in class. It
sounds like you’re having a tough situation. I have few suggestions that might help improve your
sleep quality. Try to establish a regular bedtime routine that signals to your body it's time to wind
down. This could include activities like reading a book, taking a warm bath, or practicing some
light stretches. And avoid screens before bed, as the blue light can interfere with your ability to
fall asleep. If you find yourself still struggling to fall asleep, consider talking to a trusted adult
about your concerns. They might be able to offer additional support or advice. Remember, your
well-being is important, and getting enough rest is essential for your health and performance in
school. I hope these suggestions help you get the rest you need. Take care.

Warm regards, Abby
