For this creative writing assignment, you will write a “Coming To Story” for a

character from The Marrow Thieves whose coming to story is never revealed.


• Follow the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing
• Be written in paragraph format
• Have a clear plot (beginning, middle, and end)
• Be typed, double-spaced, size 12 font
• Include dialogue
• Include at least one example of each literary device we explored:
o Simile
o Metaphor
o Imagery
o Personification
o Extending: foreshadowing
• Be 3-5 pages long
• Show control of spelling, grammar, and punctuation

the reader to experience the story through action, words, thoughts, senses, and
feelings rather than through the author's exposition, summarization, and
description

“jumped” with stronger words like “leaped, soared, or bounded”. Include
sensory details; words that describe sights, smells, sounds, feelings, tastes, etc.
You can use a thesaurus to find new words, but you should double check their
meaning in a dictionary to ensure you are using them correctly.
