1. Dedicated maintenance Laptops are recommended for data loading. These are laptops
that are only used for loading data to and from the aircraft. These laptops are not
controlled by an administrator or connected to the Internet. It has been discovered when
using laptops that require admin rights it is possible to get ‘System out of Config’
messages when trying to load.
2. Ensure the Laptop is connected to clean power source. Running laptop on battery or aircraft
power is not recommended. Corruption can occur if power is lost during programming.
3. Disable all network connections other than the LAN. Click on the laptop network and adapter
settings and make sure the wireless network connection is disabled. FTP errors have been
contributed to having the wireless enabled.
4. Disable all antivirus programs and turn off all firewalls. Much longer loading times and loading
errors have been contributed to having these programs running.
5. Refer to AMM for correct network adapter changes. The laptop computer must be correctly
configured to safely and correctly connect to the aircraft LAN. Pilatus Recommends IP address
of 192.168.200.1 and Subnet Mask of 255.255.0.0.
6. Refer to AMM on how to set compatibility mode and allowing programs through the firewall.
Add the CMC Remote Terminal to the firewall exemption list even if the firewall in turned off.

6 GETTING THE DATABASES VIA THE INTERNET

The following sections provide the instructions necessary to obtain t he required databases from INDS
via the internet. This can be done instead of receiving the databases via CD -ROM or USB Stick.

The following APEX databases are available for PC-12NG:

6.2 OPTIONAL: USING JSUM FOR FASTER CHARTS LOADING

In an effort to decrease the loading time for the Blue CD (Charts database) in the Apex system, INDS
has introduced a new update process using JSUM (Jeppesen Services Update Manager). JSUM is a free
software application that provides the ability to update a smaller region within your coverage area. This
reduces the amount of data and therefore decreases the loading time. Loading time can be
significantly reduced whether you subscribe to Worldwide or to smaller sub-region coverage(s).

JSUM Software Instructions

In order to use JSUM to update the Blue CD, the JSUM application will need to be installed on a PC.
Download the JSUM installation file from the following URL: www.jeppesen.com/jsum/download
In your browser, click Download JSUM vX.X.X, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the
program. For additional installation help, refer to any of the installation resources listed below the
download link. A Flash Multimedia screencast for updating Honeywell Apex Charts data is available
under the following URL: http://jsum.jeppesen.com/jsum/tutorials/HW_Apex_Chart_Update.htm
It is recommended that you read through the JSUM QuickStart Guide prior to installing JSUM , here:
http://www.jeppesen.com/download/misc/JSUMQSG_FINAL.pdf

program or SD card. Note that loading via Remote Terminal (CMC) is significantly faster than via the
SD card.

Aircraft powering sequence

For correct aircraft Power Up and Power Down sequence, please refer to POH Report no. 02277,
Section 4, §4.4 for power UP and §4.18 for power DOWN.

Aircraft condition
Before starting any procedure be sure that the following conditions are satisfied:

1. Aircraft is connected to external power.

2. All MAU circuit breakers are closed.

3. The aircraft is On Ground.

7.1 COMPUTER CONNECTIONS

The following sections provide the instructions necessary connect the interface equipment needed
to communicate with the aircraft and lessons learned.
a. There are three different types of connections on the PC-12. Option A: Wireless Data Loading
System installed. Option B: 100 Mbit LAN installed and Option C: 10 Mbit LAN installed only. Each
of these requires different interface equipment and connections to and from the laptop computer
to the aircraft.
a.1. Most common Option A: If the aircraft has the Wireless Data Loading System installed
(SB 46–004 or Factory Option), the aircraft Maintenance Panel has one RJ -45
connector marked High Speed LAN Bus. Use a standard CAT 5 100 Base T Ethernet
cable to connect the High Speed LAN Bus RJ-45 connector on the Maintenance Panel
to the laptop RJ-45 Ethernet connector. Note: The 10 Mbit LAN is still available and
can be used as a backup option (if the High-speed LAN Bus fails) reference AMM for
instructions.
a.2. Option B 100 Mbit LAN installed. If the aircraft is post SB 45–007 or MSN 1341 and
up, and the Wireless Data Loading System option is not installed, the aircraft
Maintenance Panel has two RJ-45 connectors marked NIC1 and NIC2. This option uses
2 RJ45 cables. Reference AMM for LAN KIT and how to co nnect. Note: The 10 Mbit LAN
Page 9/23

is still available and can be used as a backup option (if the High -speed LAN Bus fails)
reference AMM for instructions.
a.3. Option C1 - 10 Mbit LAN Connection using the LANTAP-10. If the aircraft is pre SB 45–
007 or MSN 1001 to 1341, and the Wireless Data Loading System option is not
installed, the aircraft Maintenance Panel has only one BNC connector marked LAN Bus
and no RJ-45 connectors. Reference AMM for instructions.
a.4. Least common Option C2 - 10 Mbit LAN Connection using the LTEPIC-25. If the aircraft
is pre SB 45–007 or MSN 1001 to 1341, and the Wireless Data Loading System option
is not installed, the aircraft Maintenance Panel has only one BNC connector marked
LAN Bus and no RJ-45 connectors. Reference AMM for instructions.
b. One of the most common mistakes made is that the laptop is connected after the aircraft is
powered up. Always have the laptop powered and connected to aircraft before powering the
aircraft.
c. Before starting verify aircraft is connected to external power, all MAU circuit breakers are
closed, aircraft is on the ground and the avionics are turned off.
d. Once the laptop is configured and connected do a full power up of the avionics and wait 5
minutes for the aircraft systems to stabilize. On the laptop computer sta rt the CMC Remote
Terminal software, if the computer has an admin login and you are singed in as an admin
you still have to right click the CMC Remote Terminal software and select run as an
administrator. Do not open more than one CMC/RT DLS session at a t ime. Make sure that
the CMC welcome message is shown.

7.2 UPLOADING VIA REMOTE TERMINAL (CMC)

This section describes how to utilize the Remote Terminal program to upload databases via a LAN

8. Verify that the correct .zip file has been created on the PC local storage folder. The default
download folder is C:\CMC\Report.

9. To download the FHDB file, select “CMC REPORTS”.

10. Select “EXPORT FAULT HISTORY”.

11. Send to -> local storage

12. Verify that the correct .zip file has been created on the PC local storage folder. The default
download folder is C:\CMC\Report.

8.2 DOWNLOADING VIA SD CARD

Note: The capacity of the SD card must be 2GB or less.

Note: If cFD (connected Flight Deck) is installed, it must be disabled by opening CB "WLAN Data Load"
prior of powering up the Aircraft to download ACMS.

Note: With Primus Apex Build 7, 8.3 & 8.6, only the ACMS file can be downloaded via SD card.
Apex Build 8.8 and subsequent, both the ACMS and FHDB can NOT be downloaded via SD card.
 (The ACMS and FHDB can only be downloaded via Remote Terminal and Laptop).

1. Power up the aircraft (full power up with external power, or batteries o nly).

2. With the aircraft on the ground, insert the SD card into the SD card slot on the MFC .

3. On the lower left window of the lower MFD, press the PAGE button on the MFC or CCD and
select the SCMS/DL page.

4. On the SCMS/DL page, select the Data Load tab.

5. The MFD will reboot several times and a cyan MF CTLR FAIL will be displayed in the CAS
window. Note that at this point the cursor is fixed on the Data Load tab, and the MFC buttons
are not active (bezel keys must be used).
Note: Interrupting the download process (e.g. removal of the SD card or loss of aircraft power) will
result in loss of data.

6. Pushing GET CRZ starts the cruise file download process which downloads the ACMF Stable
Cruise Log file. Depending on file size, the download process can take up to 40 minutes.

Note: The GET MAINT feature is not available with APEX Build 7 and newer software, therefore the GET
MAINT button should not be pushed. If “GET MAINT” is inadvertently pushed, cycling power is ok. For
Build 7 and newer software, the FHDB files can only be downloaded using Remote Terminal (§8.1).

7. Pushing GET LOG starts the log file downloading process which downloads the Aircraft System
Log, Navigation/Air Data Log, and Engine Log files. Depending on file size, the download
process can take up to 40 minutes.

8. Once the download has started, the current file loading status is displayed at the bottom of the
page. The GET CRZ, GET MAINT, or GET LOG label is displayed to the left of the upload
percentage.

Note: With APEX Build 7 the loading status may not be displayed incrementally (may go directly to
100% in one step).

Note: If the system is downloading files and the LAN connection is lost, a power interruption occurs, or
a protocol error occurs, the message UPLOAD FAILED is displayed in the status line. The system exits
the data loading function.

9. Wait until loading status is complete and the green light on MF controller turns off before
removing the SD card from MF Controller slot.
Note: The status will show 100% loaded, but the green light will remain illuminated while the system
reboots to normal mode. A flashing green light indicates a failure occurred during the loading process.

9 CLOSE UP PROCEDURE

1. Close DLS/CMC Remote Terminal program on the laptop.

2. Disconnect the LAN kit from the aircraft and reinstall the 50 Ohm BNC Termination Resistor on
the maintenance panel (if applicable) and maintenance panel cover.

3. Turn off PC and remove LAN Kit from aircraft.

4. Power down the aircraft (or cycle electrical power).

Note: If cFD (connected Flight Deck) is installed, make sure the CB "WLAN Data Load" is closed.

10 TROUBLESHOOTING
This procedure gives the necessary steps to troubleshooting and lessons learned.

10.1 CMC CONNECTION FAILED MESSAGE

1. LAN is not ready or failed (disconnected)

2. The IP Address is set incorrectly

3. FTP server of CMCF failed (cycle power to a/c)

4. CMC s/w is corrupted

5. Check your network connection for proper operation

6. Check RT installation or restart your PC

7. When the CMCF starts after AIOP A module power-up, it will perform Cyclic Redundancy Check
(CRC) to insure proper operation and communication with LAN and ASCB. Bad CRC will affect
normal operation and ability to link the LAN with ASCB through NIC modules and t he backplane
in MAU. Try recycling a/c power (wait 5 minutes before restart again).

8. To verify that your LAN is working properly use the “ping” command in Windows. Use extended
ping command for testing LAN performance and stability of connection.

9. Cycle power to the a/c (5 Minutes off and 5 Minutes on) and try loading again.

10.2 WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS

1. Any error messages generated during a Data Download session will be stored in Log Files on
the remote terminal. These messages can be reviewed by Honeywell t o aid in determining the
best course of action to complete the download operation.

2. Locate the File Folder “C:\DlsWork” in the main directory of the hard drive of the remote
terminal that was used to download software. Send the contents of this folder as an
attachment in an email to the OEM or Honeywell Aerospace Technical Support.
Email: [email protected] Along with the log file, the following information should
also be provided:

a. General notes of what was trying to by accomplished and what were the issues
