IISCA App Task Analysis - R

The document provides step-by-step instructions for using the IISCA app to conduct a functional analysis of problem behaviors. Key steps include registering for an account, navigating to add a client, conducting the analysis by alternating between reinforcement and extinction conditions, and inspecting the collected data to assess control and safety. The analysis uses time-based measurements to evaluate engagement, problem behaviors, and condition transitions until strong behavioral control is achieved.

IISCA App Task Analysis

REGISTRATION

Step 1: Click the App Store icon on either an iPhone or Android device and search for “IISCA.”

Step2: Click purchase ($5.99) and wait for it to be installed.

Step 3: Open the IISCA app.

Step 4: When the app loads, it will take you to the login page where you can either login with the email address
with which you signed-up, or you can create a new account.

Step 4a If you are already registered, login by entering your email address in the “Mail” field and your password
in the “Password” field and then click “Login.”
Step 4b If you need to sign-up for an account, click “Create Account.”

• Enter your first name in the “Name” field.

• Enter your last name in the “Surname” field.
• Enter your email address in the “Mail” field. Note, email addresses should be written in lowercase.
• Confirm your email address.
• Enter your password in the “Password” field.
• Click “Register.”
• Once you are registered, go back to Step 4a and login with your registered email address.

NAVIGATING THE APP

Step 1: Once you are logged-in, you will see your home client page. You can either add a client by clicking “Add
Client” found at the bottom of the screen or you can view an existing client by clicking on their initials.

Step 2: When you click “Add Client,” the app will open the interview form so you can enter demographic
information for the client along with their language level, diagnosis, a description of their R1s (dangerous
problem behaviors), R2s (non-dangerous problem behaviors), synthesized establishing operations and
synthesized reinforcers.
Step 2a Step 2b Step 2c Step 2d Step 2e Step 2f and 2g

Step 2a: Enter the client’s name, birthdate, and sex.

Step 2b: Select the language level and enter their diagnosis.

Step 2c: Enter/describe the dangerous problem behaviors (R1s)

Step 2d: Enter/describe the associated non-dangerous behaviors (R2s).

Step 2e: Enter/describe the synthesized EOs.

Step 2f: Enter/describe the synthesized reinforcers.

Step 2g: Click “Save” after reviewing your entries (note, revisions can be made after saving), and you will see
your interview in your client’s page:

Step 3: When you are ready to conduct your IISCA, click “New IISCA.”
Step 4: When you click “New IISCA,” a new page will open with an alert that reads: “Welcome to IISCA, do you
want to start a new recording now?” Click “Yes” if you are ready to start your analysis, otherwise click “No.”

Step 5: When you click “Yes” the analysis begins. You will see the timer start under “Elapsed” and “SR Time.”
The analysis automatically begins in SR (i.e., reinforcement).

In the SR Condition

Step 6: During the SR condition, you are measuring SR time (time spent in reinforcement), engagement (time
the child is happy, relaxed, and engaged [HRE]), and whether the child engages in any R1 or R2 responses. You
can also pause or stop the analysis by clicking either of those buttons.

• Click “Engagement” when the child is HRE – this tracks duration of HRE in the SR condition.
o Note: When the “Engagement” button is orange, timer is off and child is not HRE.
o When the “Engagement” button is green, the timer runs and child should be HRE.
• If the child engages in R1 (dangerous problem behavior), click R1
• If child engages in R2 (associated non-dangerous problem behavior), click R2
• When the child is HRE for at least 30 sec, you can present the EO.
• To switch to the EO condition, swipe the screen to the right or click on the light green right arrow
button near the end of the screen.
In the EO Condition

Step 7: During the EO condition, you measure time spent in EO, R1s and R2s.

• When the child engages in problem behavior, click R1 for dangerous PB and R2 for non-dangerous PB.
• Switch to the SR condition by swiping right on your screen or clicking the light gray right arrow.

Step 8: Switch between the SR and EO conditions until you have an alternation of at least four EO and SR
presentation where no PB happens in SR and only R2 behavior happens in EO. This signifies strong control.

Step 9: The app will notify you when you have reached control, and prompt you to end the analysis. You may
continue running the analysis if you wish. End the analysis by clicking “Stop” and then “End and Save.”
Step 10: The IISCA will appear on the client’s page above the interview. Click on “IISCA” to inspect the data.

Inspecting Analysis Data:

Step 1: When you click “IISCA,” it will direct you to the data. This page will show you:

• Basic data including total time, time to first EO, R1 total, R2 total, PB in SR, PB in EO, and the graph. To
access the graph, click “Tap here to view.”

Step 2: The app also assesses whether your analysis was safe.
Step 2a: SPB indicates the number of instances of severe problem behavior.

Step 2b: Burst Probability is the number of consecutive dangerous behaviors (within 5 sec from each other)
during EO conditions in relation to the number of EO conditions in which there is only one dangerous behavior.

Step 2c: PB in EO vs PB in SR indicates the total instances of problem behavior that occurred during the EO
condition in relation to the total number of PB that occurred in the SR condition.
Step 3: Click “PDF” at the bottom of the screen, and the app will email you a PDF copy of the data and graph.
