D. Word Bank. Define the following terms according to your own understanding. 5pts. each.
1. Information Age
- The Information Age is now upon us. In the world today, technology is used all around us.
Through the use of computers, cell phones, pagers, calculators, video game consoles and many
other technologically advanced products, communication has changed dramatically. The
information age is changing peoples every day activities and making tedious tasks run more
efficiently. Personal use and business-related use of computers and technology are constantly
increasing. Although there are many positive aspects of the Information Age, there are also many
negatives, such as how the Internet is unregulated. Also, there's a very large legal issue over
privacy, as well as many ethical issues computer-users face daily. Many believe that this era, as
developed as it currently is, will continue to progress and evolve over the years to come.
2. Nanotechnology
- Nanotechnology is the study of extremely small things and is used in the fields of chemistry,
biology, physics, materials science, and engineering. Nanotechnology is measured on what is
called a nanoscale, also known as a nanometer which is one billionth of a meter. Nanotechnology
improves existing industrial processes, materials and applications by scaling them down to the
nanoscale in order to ultimately fully exploit the unique quantum and surface phenomena that
matter exhibits at the nanoscale. Nanotechnology is being used in developing countries to help
treat disease and prevent health issues. The umbrella term for this kind of nanotechnology is
Nano-medicine. Nanotechnology is also being applied to or developed for application to a variety
of industrial and purification processes.
3. Climate Change
- Climate change refers to the adverse change in the environment and its impacts on the living
organisms on Earth. This happens due to many internal and external factors. The climatic change
has become a global concern over the last few decades. Besides, these climatic changes affect life
on the earth in various ways. Impacts related to climate change are evident across regions and in
many sectors important to society such as human health, agriculture and food security, water
supply, transportation, energy, ecosystems, and others. This are expected to become increasingly
disruptive in the coming decades.
