Active Speakers For Mini Hifi - AVS Forum

This forum discussion from 2022 is about selecting passive speakers that can be easily driven by a Denon M41 amplifier with 30W output and an impedance range of 6-16 ohms. Participants suggest speakers like Elac, Canton, Focal, Monitor Audio, Klipsch RP series, and KEF Q150 bookshelf speakers, saying they can be driven without issue or risk of burning out the speakers. One member shares they were able to play Neat Critique speakers loudly from a similar Denon M38 amplifier without issues.

Hi all,
can you help me please with my basic question.
I have a denon m41 that has rca outputs
can I still buy active speakers and connect it to the unit?
These are the inputs and outputs?

Thanks

I have the Denon RCD-M38, similar specs to the M41. I alternately

used Paradigm Atoms and John Blue JB3 with very good results.

In Germany, I'd look at ELAC and Canton speakers.

Unless you are looking for super loud volumes, anything with 87db
or higher sensitivity.

Assuming that Amazon in Germany has the same easy return

policy as in the US, you could try this if you want closer to 91-92 db
sensitivity:

Look at Elac, Canton, Focal, Monitor Audio, Klipsch RP series ... I

would aim for speakers with 87 db and above sensitivity

87 dB sensitivty at 8 Ohm (not sure how to read impedance though)

Prime Elevation

Best sounding home audio elevation speaker for Dolby Atmos,

DTS:X and Auro-3D. Endless versatility as front, surround, center
and/or LCR home theater speaker.

83dB sensitivity at 6 Ohms (again the Ohms problem)

and here no sensitivty value

I was hoping to drive kef q150s ...

No problem driving the Kef Q150 with the Denon M41

I have Neat Critique bookkshelf speakers, 8ohm 86db, and have

driven them with the Denon M38. The Neat Critique are about the
same size/spec as the Q150s and the Critique’s performance was
excellent with the M38.

Those little speakers are designed to be used as surrounds or

Atmos, not as mains...I would avoid, plus they are overpriced. For
the same price you can do a lot better.

Have you been able to play them loud? Not that I care about
loudness but mostly about not burning the speakers

Not wall shaking loud but certainly loud enough! Probably an SPL
around 75dB at 2m

What happened to the Dali Oberon? Taking advantage of the sale
on KEF? The specs of both are pretty similar, so you should not
have an issue driving either.
