MMW Activity 1

This document provides examples of logical propositions and truth tables to determine whether statements are propositions, the negation of statements, symbolic representation of statements with given truth values, and construction of truth tables. It contains 3 activities - determining if sentences are propositions or not, writing negations of statements, and representing statements symbolically with truth values. It also provides 2 examples of truth tables - one for the compound proposition "q <-> (not p and q)" and another for "(p or q) implies not r".

10. Hi, classmate.

B. Determine the negation of the following statements. Write only your answers on
your answer sheets.
1. The sum of two odd numbers is an even number.

2. 9 + 2 = 8.

3. Everyone in class passed the quiz today.

4. Some celebrities are worth a million dollars.

5. BTOB is a Kpop group.

6. No one in class watch medical series.

C. Consider the following propositions and their corresponding indicated truth
values.

p : 3 is an odd integer. T
q :√3 is not a rational number. T
r : Marikina is a city in Bulacan. F
s : The square of any number is positive. F

Write each given statement in symbolic form and indicate its truth value. Write only
your answer on
your answer sheets.

1. Either Marikina is a city in Bulacan or √3 is not a rational number.

2. The square of any number is positive and 3 is an odd integer.
3. If 3 is an odd integer, then Marikina is a city in Bulacan.
4. √3 is a rational number if and only if 3 is an odd integer.
5. Neither 3 is not an odd integer nor the square of any number is positive.
6. If 3 is an odd integer, then either √3 is a rational number or the square of any number is positive.
7. Marikina is not a city in Bulacan if and only if either the square of any number is positive or 3 is
an odd integer.
8. If 3 is not an odd integer, then Marikina is a city in Bulacan implies that √3 is not a rational number.
9. √3 is a rational number whenever either 3 is an odd integer or the square of any number is positive.
10. Marikina is a city in Bulacan is necessary for the square of any number to be positive.

D. Construct a truth table for the following. Copy the given truth table on your
answer sheet and provide the necessary truth values.
