INTRODUCTION
Importance of Law in daily life of (LGBT) people.LGBT is an initialism that
stands for "lesbian, gay, bisexual, and Transgender. In use since the late 1980s, the
initialism, as well as some of its common variants, functions as an umbrella term for
marginalized sexualities and gender identities. The law plays a significant role in the
daily lives of LGBT people, and the ongoing policing of sexuality and gender has a
significant impact on many LGBT people. LGBT people in the United States still do not
have formal equality and are not given many of the protections accorded to other
historically disadvantaged groups, despite significant advances in the field of LGBT civil
rights. These legal restrictions are a constant source of minority stress, and the LGBT
community may develop a high level of "legal consciousness" as a result.
In this study, the researchers are going to determine the importance of
law in daily life of (LGBT) people in Barangay San Antoñio Los Baños Laguna. In this
generation (LGBT) frequently endure bullying, discrimination,a lack of access to LGBT-
related information etc. This bullying may be associated with their sexual orientation
and/or gender identity.Bullying undermines (LGBT) physical and mental health, and the
effects of bullying on health are long-lasting.Bullying is associated with poor mental
health, including symptoms of depression, low self-esteem, and suicidal Ideation.
And also Discrimination against LGBTI people undermines the human
rights principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yet
discrimination and violence against people in the LGBTI community are all too
common.Homophobic, biphobic and transphobic attitudes remain deeply embedded in
many cultures around the world.Despite recent advances, people in this country are still
being fired, harassed and targeted at work because they are LGBTQ. If you’ve been
discriminated against because of your sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender
expression (in hiring, firing, promotion, benefits, or work conditions).LGBTQ community
still sufferpernicious and blatant gender bias in all areas of public and private life,
including housing, employment, opportunities in academic settings, in the ability to buy
goods and services, and in the opportunities to participate meaningfully in our society's
decision making processes.
There is a growing number of laws around the country being enacted under
the guise of religious freedom that curtails - even eliminates - the rights of LGBTQ
individuals. Furthermore, homophobia and discomfort with individuals who do not
conform to antiquated stereotypes of sex and gender often manifests into heinous
discrimination against these individuals. Nearly 41% of gay and lesbian adults face
some form of hostility or harassment on the job, including being fired or forced to quit
because of their sexual orientation. Although federal laws protect people from workplace
discrimination on the basis of sex, race, national origin, religion, age, and disability,
there is no federal law that specifically outlaws workplace discrimination on the basis of
sexual orientation by private employers.
However, over the years, there has been more legal support for
finding that Title VII's prohibition against "sex" discrimination also covers sexual
orientation discrimination. The reasoning is that sexual orientation discrimination
necessarily involves gender-based stereotypes of how men and women should behave
and with whom they should be in romantic relationships.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
There have been many issues and cases about the acceptance of LGBT
issues in.society, such as hate speech, discrimination, and negative atitudes towards
LGBT
individuals. The negative treatment makes the LGBT hard to express themselves in
society and cause them to experience mental health problems and dificulties in
accepting themselves as they are.The only way to reduce or preventing this scenarios
is to implement many laws to have LGBT community the rights to express more of their
selves.
