DESCWPTION AND OPERATION

1. Physical Description

The Synchros consist of a cylindrical housing containing a ball bearing

mounted wirewound rotor, stator winding(s) , and in some synchros a brush
block assembly.

2. Functional Operation

A. Synchro Transmitter

The Spchro Transmitter is a unit wherein the rotor is mechanically posi-

tioned for transmitting electrical information corresponding to angular
position of the rotor with respect to the stator. A synchro torque
transmitter primarily is for operation with receivers, torque differen-
tial transmitters, and differential receivers. A synchro control
transmitter is constructed primarily for operation with control trans-
formers or control differential transmitters. Leading particulars are
shown in tables 1 and 2. A schematic diagram is shown in figure 1.

%. Synchro Control Transformer

The Synchro Control Transformer is a unit wherein the stator is supplied

with electrical angular information and the rotor outputs are voltages
proportional to the sine of the difference between the electrical input
angles and the control transformer rotor angles. A synchro control
transformer is constructed primarily for operation with control trans-
mitters and control differential transmitters. Leading particulars are
shown in tables 3, 4, and 5. A schematic diagram is shown in figure 1.

c. Synchro Receiver

The Synchro Receiver is a unit wherein the rotor is free to turn to

assume a position with respect to the stator according to the electrical
information received when the rotor is properly energized. A synchro
receiver is primarily constructed for operation with torque transmitters
and torque differential transmitters. Leading particulars are shown in
table 6. A schematic diagram is shown in figure 1.

D. Synchro Resolver

The Synchro Resolver is a unit which produces voltages on the secondaries

which are sine and cosine functions of the voltages supplied to the
primaries, depending upon the angular position of the rotor with respect
to the stator. Leading particulars are shown in table 7. A schematic
diagram is shown in figure 2.

2. E. Synchro Control Transmitter (Linear Generator)

The Linear Generator is a unit wherein the output is a fixed frequency

signal whose amplitude varies directly with the speed of the motor
driving the generator. Leading particulars are shown in table 8.
A schematic diagram is show in figure 2.

12. ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST

This section lists and illustrates all of the procurable assemblies and parts
for the synchro. It is not to be taken as the authority for the procedure of
assembly or disassembly, but is intended only for use in requisitioning, storing,
--
issuing, and identifying parts, and illustrating disassembly relationships.

A. Indexing. All parts are indexed for easy cross referencing in the appli-
cable exploded view.

B. Part Nmber. The contractor part numbers reflect certain drawing infor-
mation. Part numbers consist of three sections; a one- or two-digit
prefix, the basic part number, and a one-digit suffix. Example:
35-1841-2. The first two digits (35) indicate a synchro, the numerals
(1841) form the basic part number, and the last digit (2) differentiates
between parts or assemblies having the same basic drating number.

c. Nomenclature Column. The description is indented under the numbers 1

through 7 to show the relationship of one part or assembly to another part
or assembly.

D. Terms and symbols. The following terms and symbols are used in the parts
list:

No number - No assigned complete part number

- Nonillustrated assembly. Assembly of which only the component

parts are indexed and illustrated

AR - As required

E. EFF (Effectivity) Code Column. Part number variations of the part are
indicated by a letter symbol. mere no usage code letter appears, the
part is applicable to all articles. A dash between code letters in this
column means “thru” (for example A-D = A thru D).

F. Units Per Assy Column. The number appearing in the UNITS PER ASSY column
is the total quantity of the listed part required in its immediate
assembly.

G. To identify parts with part numbers, first locate the part and its item
number in the exploded tiew. Find the item number in the parts list to
determine the part number, nomenclature, disassembly relationship, and the
units per assembly.
