fngine Dataplate
The engine dataplate provides importan! information about the engine. The engine serial number (ESN) and control
part list (CPL) provide information for service and for ordering parts. The engine dataplate must not be changed
unless approved by Cummins lnc.
Have the following engin~ data available when communicating with a Cummins@ Authorized Repair Location. The
information on the dataplate is mandatory when sourcing service parts.
NOTE: The engines covered by this manual are produced worldwide. The dataplates used on engines may differ in
appearance and locatioh'of information. The following illustrations show examples of common dataplates used and the
information contained on the dataplate.

3 Horsepower arel rpm ratjng
4 Valve lash (overhead) S?tting.
NOTE: Dependin9onthe rrianufacturing plant, calibration data may also be found on !he engine dataplate.
NOTE: lf the engine dataplate (1) is not legible, the
engine serial number (2) can be found on !he engine
block, on top of !he lubricating oil cooler housing.
Additional engine information can be found on the
electronic control module (ECM) dataplate.
ECM Dataplat~
The electronic control module (ECM) dataplate shows
infonnation about the ECM and how the ECM was
programmed. The dataplate is located on the ECM.
The following information is available on the ECM
dataplate:
ECM part number (PN)
ECM serial nümber (SN)
ECM date code (DC)
Engine serial number (ESN)
ECM code: ldentífies the software in the ECM.
NOTE: Have the ECM code far the engine available when
communicating with a Cummins® Authorized Repair
Location.
NOTE: The presence of an ECM dataplate depends on
the manufacturing plant and the date the engine was
manufactured. lf an ECM dataplate was no! installed by
the manufacturing plan!, calibraton data can be found on
the engine dataplate. ·
Air Compres~'í:>r
NOTE: No! afí" ~~gines are equipped with an air
compressor.
The Cummins® branded air compressor dataplate,
identified by the Cummins lnc. lago, is typically located on
the side of !he air compressor. The dataplate contains the
following information to assist in servicing or replacement:
Cummins® part number
Serial number
Date code.
