COURSE OBJECTIVE:
The basic objective of this course is to explain basic principles of semiconductors and understand the
operation of devices like diode, BJT, FET and MOSFET. In addition, ac and dc analysis of transistors is
also covered with their applications.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Semiconductors: atomic structure of elements, energy level diagram for solids, intrinsic and extrinsic
semiconductors, electron hole pairs, distribution of electrons, combination & regeneration. Diodes:
application of diodes: half wave rectifier, full wave rectifier, bridge rectifier. Zener & special purpose
diodes, voltage regulation. Bipolar Junction Transistors: operation, Static characteristic, Q-point, D.C.
circuit analysis, Transistor as a switch and amplifier, Transistor configurations and biasing methods.
Field Effect Transistors: Operation, output characteristics, transfer characteristics, types of JFET, biasing
circuits, Q-point. MOSFET, its types, small signal analysis.
