3 CONNECTIONS
3.1 Connecting to the power line
The wheel aligner console must be connected to a 220/240V 50Hz power line; max power
used is 500W.
Use the power socket provided, positioned on the rear of the unit.
IMPORTANT: The power line is best not disconnected during the night as the measuring
heads have to be recharged. For this reason, when the appliance is switched off, the system
interrupts power to the PC, to the monitor and to the dedicated electronics, but not to the
media or recharge cables.
3.2 Connecting the measuring heads to the console
3.2.1 Connecting the measuring heads series TD5000 and TD1700E
The console of the wheel aligner series TD5000 and TD1700E communicates with the front
measuring heads directly through the cables provided; these must be connected to board
10475 on connectors JP1 and JP2; moreover, the front measuring heads do not feature
batteries and consequently these cables also provide power. See Figure 40 and Figure 41.

of the front measuring heads.
The pair of receivers-transmitters must be fitted on the handles of the turnplates; being
careful to keep to the direction of movement, they must both be fitted at the rear (Figure 42);
 connect the connectors of the 2 cables code 10460 to the female connector of the receiver
/ transmitter units. The receiver /transmitter unit connections do not indicate to which
turnplate they have to be fitted (left or right). They can be connected without making
reference to the position.
 protect the connection by hiding this inside the box located underneath the plate and
clamp the cable to the handle.
 next connect the connectors of cables 10460 to the board; see Figure 44. Figure 45.

3.5 Connection of sensors and internal measuring head devices

The connections inside the measuring heads are already factory made, so the measuring
head itself need not be opened, except to replace component parts.
It is best however not to remove the measuring head cover; in the event of malfunctions,
always contact the manufacturer. If simple maintenance jobs have to be performed
however, e.g., changing the battery, care must be taken to return any moved parts to
their original position.
Below is a short description of the connections of the different boards fitted on the
measuring heads, depending on the model.

4 CALIBRATIONS
4.1 Measuring head calibration
The measuring heads of the RAV wheel aligner are already factory set; moreover, the
calibration settings are stored in the CPU memory of the measuring head itself. At the time of
installation or changing a measuring head, the appliance does not therefore require data
calibration or configuration. Calibration is only required if the transducers are changed or
following ascertained repeated errors due to transducer movement (as a result of falls,
knocks, etc.). Use the following calibration systems depending on the models provided:
1) TDA14 calibration system (for all models)

IMPORTANT: to calibrate the sensors series TD5000, a console must be used with TD5000
corresponding program; to calibrate the high and medium-range sensors, series TD1700-1800-2000
on the other hand, a console must be used with program TD1700-1800-2100.

All models except TD5040 / TD5040T

Calibration of the measuring heads is split into 8 stages, described in detail, including
graphically, in the calibration program.
In stages 1 and 2, the front and rear left hand measuring heads are fitted and the Left
Alignment and Level angles are calibrated (AFL, ARL, LFL, LRL)
In stages 3 and 4, the front and rear right hand measuring heads are fitted and the Right
Alignment and Level angles are calibrated (AFR, ARR, LFR, LRR)
In stages 5 and 6 the front left hand and front right hand measuring heads are fitted
and the Front Toe-in and Camber angles are calibrated (TFL, TFR, CFL, CFR)

In stages 7 and 8 the rear left hand and rear right hand measuring heads are fitted and
the Rear Toe-in and Camber angles are calibrated (TRL, TRR, CRL, CRR)
Note: The models TD5060/5080/5060T/5060TBTH do not feature an electronic level and
consequently the program jumps stages 2 and 4 during which the level inclinometer gain is
normally calculated.
None of the models series TD5000 and TD1700 feature LEDs for calibrating the alignment
and toe-in gain (normally fitted on JP12 and JP7- see Figure 66), consequently gain
calibration is always the same, typical of the measuring head, and the gain values are
therefore fixed (see ref. 6 Figure 74).

Models TD5040 / TD5040T

Measuring head calibration is split into just 4 stages, graphically described in the
calibration program. Only the front measuring heads are calibrated because the rear
ones only act as reference for alignment.
In stage 1, the two front measuring heads are fitted and the Alignment angles are
calibrated (AFL, AFR).
Note: Because these models do not feature the electronic levels, stage 2, during which the level
inclinometer gain is normally calculated, is bypassed by the program, in the same way as for
TD5060/5080/5060T/5060TBTH.
In stages 3 and 4, the two front measuring heads are fitted and the Toe-in and camber
angles are calibrated (TFL, TFR, CFL, CFR)

4.2 Caster compensation procedure

The first option of the calibration
menu (see Figure 72), is used in order
to adjust the caster angles readings
caused by eventual “out of level” of the
vehicle in longitudinal direction. This
could happens, for example, when the
lift groove of the turntables, have a
differently height than the turntables
height.
It is necessary set, simply by the key
F2 and F3, the difference between the
front wheel height and the rear wheel
height (see Figure 75).

The apparatus will automatically

adjust the caster reading, considering
this difference relating it with a
standard wheel base of the vehicle.

Figure 75

4.3 Steering Self calibration procedure

If the measuring heads are not
perfectly calibrated could happens
that after the adjustment of the
vehicle, on the road, it will result with
the steering wheel not in the straight
position. The second option of the
calibration menu (see Figure 72), is
used in order to adjust the position of
the steering wheel. It is necessary set,
simply by the key F2 and F3, the
position how become actually the
steering wheel (see Figure 76). The
apparatus will compensate
automatically the reading values in
order to obtain a position straight of
the steering wheel.
