Instructions: Rewatch the video and answer the following questions and explain some ideas of Sherry

Turkle. Your answers must be in a short paragraph only per item/idea.

1. Why is the speech titled "Connected, but Alone"? Explain the implication or connection of the
title to the message/theme of the speech. What insight have you gained from the speech?

The Speech is titled "Connected, but Alone" because it talks about the sad reality of people
being associated or connected with so many other people but ending up really feeling empty or
alone. Every part of Sherry’s speech gives us scenarios and different routines that will show us
how we tend to be really alone. How the feeling of being connected thru the modern
technology only leads us apart from those whom we really want to be with. How our little
awareness of what it is doing to us, pull us away from what really matters? From this speech, we
learned what and how digital technology should help us and take advantage of its various
capabilities to gain and improve more rather that destroy what we are dreaming of, that of
being together.

2. How do people have become "alone together" because of technology?

There’s a common saying that modern technology, gadgets specifically, makes people from afar
nearer but makes those already near far from each other. We all seem to be preoccupied when
we all have our gadgets on our hand because we don’t seem to mind people and things near us
anymore. We are too busy and concentrated on what we are seeing in our gadgets that we
really put conversation with those near us aside. Our misconception that those giving likes and
comments on our social media posts are the ones who really care for us are slowly directing us
to be alone. We ignore what those around us, near us, can do more for us. We were so amazed
of the modern technology that we are slowly pressing the sense of feeling down and
suppressing the more intimate acts of being together with the people that matters most in our
lives. So instead of enjoying the company of others, that wrong feeling that digital technology is
making us together all the time is really making us alone together.
