Cultural Values and Norms

"cultural norms and values" refers to the unspoken rules that guide a community's

conduct. They control the behaviors deemed suitable within a culture and are passed down

from one generation to the next (Chwialkowska et al., 2020).

Cultural Norms and Values: The film illustrates a variety of cultural conventions and

beliefs, one of which is that it is okay to come from and belong to a different culture. As a

result, it's a good thing since it helps people to be proud of their culture while also letting

them be themselves. I now realize that attempting novel foods and pastimes is encouraged

and accepted. It is advantageous since it allows people to lead more adventurous lives and try

new things. I now realize that there are acceptable ways to pronounce words. This is a good

thing since it allows people to be themselves while still being proud of their culture. It is okay

to hold opinions that are in opposition to those of others. This makes it easier for people to be

open-minded and accept other people's points of view, which is why it's a good thing.

Cultural Comparison: The cultural beliefs and customs shown in the film are different

from mine in that it is not acceptable to be unique. One of the areas where the video and I

differ is in this. To be accepted by the group, one must conform to their ways and act like

them. Promoting engaging in uncommon activities or eating unconventional meals is

inappropriate. It is important to eat the same foods that others do to blend in and be accepted.

Cultural Relativism: I practiced cultural Relativism by trying to see things from other

people's viewpoints. I drew judgments about cultural norms and values in both the movie and

my society. I also tried to have an open mind and be considerate of other people's viewpoints.

I will use the knowledge I've gained from doing this journal assignment in my film analysis

for the final project if I try to see things from other people's perspectives, have an open mind,

and respect other people's opinions.

Application: In conclusion, cultural Relativism refers to the idea that individuals

should try to understand and accept other people's traditions and practices, even if they differ.

This is a crucial lesson for us since it helps us be more tolerant and understanding of one

another.
