SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING REPORT
1. Synopsis, preferably, should be of about 10 pages.
2. The content should be as brief as is sufficient enough to explain the objective and
implementation of the project.
3. The write up/document must adhere to the guidelines and should include the following:
i. Name / Title of the Project
ii. Statement about the Problem
iii. Objective and scope of the project
iv. Literature Survey (If Research oriented Project)
v. Methodology
vi. Hardware & Software to be used
vii. The Schedule of the project or Work Breakdown Structure
viii. Conclusion
ix. References/Bibliography.
Following contents have to be taken into consideration in synopsis:
Name/Title/Topic of the Project: This should be explicitly mentioned at the
beginning of the Synopsis. Since the topic itself gives an insight into the project to be
taken up, the student is suggested to be reasonable on the name/title of the project.
The title being the overall impression on the complete work, the topic should
substantiate the work.
Objective and Scope:This should give a clear picture and final outcome of the
project. Objectives should be clearly specified. What the project ends up to and in
what way it is going to help the end user has to be mentioned.
Process Description: The process of the whole software system proposed, to be
developed, should be mentioned in brief. This has to be supported by DFD's/
Flowcharts/Use Case Diagrams to explain the flow of the data and control in the
project.
Resources and Limitations:The requirement of the resources for designing and
developing the proposed system must be given. The resources might be in form of the
hardware / software or real time data. The limitations of the proposed system in
respect of a larger and comprehensive system must be given in the synopsis itself.
Conclusion:The document must end with the concluding remarks-briefly describing
innovations in implementing the project and also any other important feature that
makes the system stands out from the rest.
References and bibliography:The complete list of books (chapter listing, topic
listing), website links (complete URLs) and research papers (title and authors, year of
publications) have to be mentioned.
The topic can be chosen from any technology/field related to Information Technology like
Cloud Computing, Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic, Image Processing, Artificial
Intelligence, Embedded Systems, Web Development, Applications linked to social
networks, Security(wired/wireless), algorithmic approaches, IoT, block chain technologies
etc. The topics are not limited to the list mentioned and can also be in any other area of
relevance.
4. PageDimensionsandMargin:
ThedimensionsofthefinalboundreportshouldbeonstandardA4 sizeofgoodquality
white paper.
TheSynopsisshouldhave L e f t , Right,Top&BottomMarginof 2.54cm.
5. Page Sequence and Numbering:
Page sequence will be as:
i. Front page,
ii. Declaration page,
iii. Main text and finally
iv. References.
Page numbering will start from main text (after declaration page) and in footer
6. MainText:The main text will be formatted as follows:
Running Text should be in Times New Roman font with 12 font size and 1.5 spacing
in paragraph.
Main headings should be in Times New Roman font with 12 font size, bold face and
in UPPERCASE.
Sub headings should be in Times New Roman font with 12 font size bold face and in
Capital Each Word.
Sub-Sub headings should be in Times New Roman font with 12 font size bold face
and in Capital Each Word with italic.
Note:
The students should be ready to answer the following type of questions at the time of
submission of the synopsis:
Explain about your project or why should the department approve your project.
Specify the strengths and limitations of your proposed work.
Discuss the impact of proposed project on society/academics/college/industry.
