Standard Unit Description
Air Cooled water chillers, with refrigerant R22 and
Sultable for outdoor installation. The units are factory tested
fo that only water and electrical connections neod to be
made on site,
‘Supporting frame and panels,
Bese in painted galvanized steo! anc supporting strusture in
aluminium in unite with + or 2 compressors. Base and
‘Supporting structure inthe larger units are made of painted
Gelvanized sheet steel. External panels are made of Pvc
coated galvanized sheet steel
“HITACHI” sors-hermetic serew compressors
The HITACHI semichermetic screw compressors are direct
coupled with the electric motor The compressors are
inszlled on rubber antivipration mountings in a separate
cabinet. In ASYR and ASVL versions, the cabinet is thermally
Insulated and internally ined with a layer of open cell sound
absorbent material in fully ecyolabie Polyester fibre fool

The totor unit, comprising § malo rotors and 6 femala rotor,
ere supported at both ends by special oil lubricated
bearings. A three-step capacity control with slide valve
wich slows a capacity contro! for each compressor of S0%e,
75% and 100% is fitted as standard,
Each compressor incorporates,
Two pole steridelta electric motor
* Capacity contro! solenoid valves
* Electronic thermal protection with centralised manual

Maintenance Interval of Bearings
Cat bearings and roller bearings are utilised in HITACH)
‘SRM screw compressors. The operation life ofthe bearings
is approximately 24000 hours
HITACHIEvaporator
Direct expansion shell and tube type with unequal bore
frecr-cireuit conduits to maintain the correct refrigerant
clreulation speed within the tubes during both liquid and gas
phases. The steel shell is insulated with a closed-cell
neoprene anticcondensation lining, The tubular insert
consists of copper tubing internally grooved so as to
improve heat exchange anc mechanically expanded into the
tube plate. A thermostatically controlled electric heater
provents freezing of the evaporator in low ambient
temperatures,
Condensing coils
Made of copper tubes and aluminium corrugated fins,
complete with sub-cooling coil. This guarantees continuous
flow of liquid refrigerant to thermostatic expansion valve
and an increase in cooling. In units with 2 compressors, the
condensing coils are equipped with cross circuiting
This configuration allows a reduction in the condensing
temperature when passing from operation with two
‘compressors to just one, thanks to the considerable finned
‘area availablo to the only circuit left working: the enorgy
efficiency ratio increases and the running cost decreases,
Condenser fans
Axiaifans with external rotor and die-castaluminium blades,
Six pole electric motors are complete with thermal
protection. They are housed in an aerodynamic enclosure
and equipped with safety protection grilles.
Refrigerant circuits
The units are equipped with one or more independent
cooling circuits and each circuits equipped with:
© Liquid line shut-off valve
© Liquid line solenoid valve
© Dryer filter with replaceable core
© Sight glass
‘¢ Thermal expansion valve with external equaliser
High and low-pressure safety valves
Pressure switches with gauges control the discharge and
suction pressures. The units are supplied complete with the
‘operating charge of refrigerant oll and Refrigerant 22, and
are factory tried and tested,
Electrical power and control panel
Electrical power and control panel completo with contactors
and fuses for the compressors and fans. The power section
uses bartype distribution system, The electrical panal,
inside the supporting structure, is fitted with a sealed double
door and is suitable for outside installation.

All units ere factory charged with refrigerant. nthe event of
2 leak during operation where all, or part of the refrigerant
charge is lost, the following procedures should be carried!
‘out for racharging or topping up the system,
A, After total roftigorant loss:
Liquid Charging after System Evacuation ~- Unit switched
off
Charge through the service connection of the liquid line
shutoff vaive,
Open the shut-off valve fily,
Connect a refrigerant bottle to the service connection
leaving the connector loose,
Purge the air from the charging tine and tighten the
connection,
Open the service connection to the system by closing the
liquid line shut-off valve @ few turns.
With the refrigerant bottle upturned, fully open the shut-off
valve on the bottle, The correct charge (seo Unit General
Data) should be weighed into the system and the shutoff
valve on the bottle closed,
‘Open the liquid tine shut-off valve fully Start the unit anel
allow it to run for several minutes fuly loaded, Check that the
Sight glass is freo of bubbles and contains only liquid
rofrigarant
If, due to low ambient temperatures for exemple, it is not
possible to fully charge the system using this method, the
remaining charge should be added using the topping up
method B
When operating correctly the units should have 47°C
suction superheat ancl 4-8°C of liquid subcooling, Excessive
suiperheat can indicate © lack of refrigerant, whereas:
excessive subcooling can indicate an overcharge of
refrigerant.
‘To obtain the suction superhest, measure the temperature of
the suction pipe immediately after the bulb of the
thermostatic expansion valve and compare this 10 the
temperature equivalent to the saturated suction
temperature corresponding to the reading on the low
pressure gauge. The differences the suction superheat.
‘To obtain the liquid cubcooling, measure the temperature of
the liquidne leaving the condenser arid compare this to the
temperature equivalent to the saturated discharge
temperature corresponding to the reading on the high
pressure gauge
‘The cifference isthe liquid subcooting,
B. After partial refrigerant loss ~ topping up
Adding refrigerant with the unit running —Vapourcharging
CAUTION. charge vapour only. Do not attempt to charge
liquid as this could rosult in comprossor damage,
Vapour should be charged through the Schrader valve
located between the expansion valve and the cooler
Connecta refrigarant bottle to the Schrader valve leaving the
connector loose.
Purge the air from the charging line and tighten the
connection, Make sure the bottle is vortical ane open the
shut-off valve.
Continue charging untilthe sight glass is free of bubbles andl
shutoff the vaive. The unit should then be charged corractly
Ovarcharging results in higher ischarge pressures, higher
ower consumption, and possible compressor damage.
CAUTION
When the comprassoris ewitched off, the rotors go into reverse mode eauised by reversed gas flow. This lests fora fow
‘seconds only, until the pressures equalise. The noise created is quite normal
CAUTION
Leak tests should only be carried out with dy air or an inert gas such as nitrogen, Oxygen, acetylene or other
inflammable gases must not be used for this purpose due to the risk of explosion,
