"Flowerbud the super frog, a lonely hero, rescues his friends from a rainstorm!
A picture book about a super hero and a lonely, discriminated minority."
There is a frog who is “a little bit different.” He is Flowerbud, a super frog who gained extraordinary powers after surgery following an
accident. His friends feel uncomfortable with Flowerbud, who can jump into the sky with his spring legs and stretch out his rubber
band arm to catch bugs. Instead of welcoming Flowerbud, who survived a dangerous accident and surgery, his friends avoid him,
murmuring, “He is strange; he is not a real frog.” Flowerbud saves them from hunger by hunting for lots of bugs with his stretchy arm
and rescues Puku, who is fighting a heron that is 20 times bigger than him. Still, his friends do not accept him. Through an action hero
narrative, this picture book invites young readers to think about the important themes of difference and community.

Gyeong-seo and Gyeong-seo
Written by JOUNG, Sung-Hee, illustrated by AHN, Eun-jin

★ Best book of Children's Hankook Ilbo
Gyeong-seo, who strikes, and Gyeong-seo who is battered; together they confront violence!
“I, Gang Gyeong-seo, have as strong a fist as the boys. There’s nothing more formidable than my fist to make Park Jin-cheol shut up.
Since he picked on me first, I thought he deserved a punch from me. Or that’s what I used to think. But after I became close friends
with Seo Gyeong-seo, I can’t strike him as I used to before. The reason is that Seo Gyeong-seo and Park Jin-cheol are perhaps similar
to each other. Her mother, who caused the purple bruise on the body and heart of Gyeong-seo, is like me. Could I possibly be doing
the same thing as she is? Could we be guilty of the same misdeed? A rather heavy theme of “anti-violence” is adroitly incorporated
into children’s relationships. It is quite amazing that the author analogized child abuse to the everyday violence of children. While
discovering the circumstances of both Gyeong-seo’s, readers will realize that the two types of violence are not too far apart. This is a
good book to begin a discussion on domestic and school violence.
