OCTOBER 30, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I'm excited to welcome you to third grade!

With this new school year I have some important information to share about our

classroom.

About Me:

I'm Mrs. Rebekah Chesney, your child's 3rd-grade teacher.

Here's a brief overview of my background:

 Associate of Arts and Sciences in Education from Wytheville

Community College.

 Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Old

Dominion University.

 Three years of as a substitute teacher for Wythe County Public

Schools while pursuing my degree.

When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my

animals, going on mountain hikes, and reading on my porch. These

activities bring me joy and help me appreciate the wonders of the

world.
I'm here to guide your child's learning journey. We'll

focus on teamwork, kindness, and encouraging

questions. My mission is to create a supportive and

inclusive space where every child feels valued,

respected, and empowered. I'm excited to have your

child in our class, and I invite you to join us through

our newsletter and classroom activities. Together, we can make this school year one of growth,

discovery, and success.

Rules and Expectations:

Here's what you can expect from our classroom:

From me, you can expect:

Quality teaching every day.

Extra assistance when needed.

A cheerful and organized classroom.

Fairness and respect for all students.

I expect students to:

Come prepared to learn.

Follow classroom rules.

Maintain a positive attitude and complete their work on time.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these expectations or any other matter, please

don't hesitate to reach out. We value open communication with our students' families.
Homework Policy:

We have a homework policy that supports your child's

learning outside of the classroom. Any work not completed in

class due to behavioral issues will be sent home to be

completed. Parents or guardians, please sign the completed

homework, and if you have any questions or concerns related

to homework or any other activities, feel free to contact us.

Your partnership in ensuring that these activities are carried

out at home is greatly appreciated. In addition to this, we strongly encourage each student to

engage in daily reading for at least 30 minutes. Reading is a fundamental skill that can greatly

enhance their academic growth. Furthermore, we recommend that students regularly review their

spelling and math facts in preparation for weekly assessments. These practices will help solidify

their knowledge and boost their confidence in these subjects.

Classroom Supplies:

Please note that some classroom

supplies, such as pencils, erasers, dry

erase markers, folders, and

notebooks, may need to be replaced

throughout the year as they are used

or become damaged. We strive to

maintain a well-equipped learning

environment for your child. To ensure

that we always have the necessary materials for a successful learning experience, we will send a
Red Notice Card home when supplies begin to run low or show signs of wear and tear. This

advance notice will provide you with ample time to replace any needed items, helping us

maintain a productive and engaging classroom.

Attendance and Missing Work:

Regular attendance is crucial. If your child is absent, please inform us. Parents should contact the

school or teacher to report an absence. In case of an absence, students will receive assignments to

make up the missed work. Parents or guardians should sign the completed work. If you have any

questions about the assignments or the grading process, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Rules and Behavior Plan:

Our classroom has clear rules: listening respectfully, being kind, completing work on time,

collaborating, and asking questions. We also have a behavior plan to help students understand the

consequences of their actions, whether positive or negative.

Positive Points System:

We have a system to reward good behavior. For example, students can earn points for kindness,

completing their work, helping others, and more. These points can be used to receive small

rewards.

How to Reach Me:

You can contact me via email at [email protected]. Or, call the school and leave a message. I

will return your call as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to support

your child's education and ensure they have a successful school year.
Sincerely,

Mrs. Rebekah Chesney
