Replacing The Fermator VVVF4 With The VVVF5 Plus

The VVF5+ controller is compatible with the VVVF4 motor with some connections requiring modification. The VVVF4 encoder must connect to the ASYNC plug on the VVF5+. The raised edges on the VF motor cable plug prevent it from connecting to the VVF5+, so those edges must be cut off to allow the plug to slide in. Adding a bridge from pin 7 to ground on the car top junction board can fix issues with light rays not working correctly after replacing the VVVF4 drive unit with a VVF5+.

Fermator VVF5+ Light Ray Faults - Schindler

If you are installing a new VVF5+ PCB control board with an old VVVF4 motor, please refer to
the information below. Thanks to Peter Atkinson (WA) for this information

1. Encoder Connection.

• The VVF5+ controller is fully compatible with the VVVF4 controller, so it is possible
to replace a VVVF4 with a VVF5+, but not the other way.

• The VVVF4 encoder (existing 4 wires) has to be connected to the plug marked
ASYNC.

2. Motor Connection.

Due to VF motor cable plug having raised edges, it cannot be plugged in to the new VVF5+
controller.
So, it is necessary to cut the raised plastic (circled section in the following picture) at the left
side of the plug so you can slide the plug in.

4. VVF5+ Light Ray Fault – Schindler 3300/5300

In some cases, after replacement of the Fermator Door Drive unit VVVF4 with the VVF5+ there
are some situations where the Light Rays will not correctly.
Problems range from door reversals after several trips to permanent blocking of the light rays.
A fix is to add a bridge from 0 volt to ground on the car top junction board - The bridge can be
placed from plug SKC pin 7 to ground.
