Measurements

The document discusses the differences between teacher-made tests and standardized tests. Teacher-made tests are created by individual teachers to evaluate student achievement in specific classrooms, while standardized tests have pre-determined questions and grading that are used consistently across multiple schools. Some key differences are that standardized tests cover broader curricula over longer time periods, are developed by professional test creators, and have established norms based on large student groups, while teacher-made tests focus on individual classrooms and are created by one or two teachers.

Differentiate between teacher made test and standardized test .

Accreditation can be define as What is accreditation? Accreditation is the assessment of the

competence and impartiality of an organisation and the compliance of their work to nationally and
internationally recognised standards or schemes .

Teacher made test : Teacher-made tests are normally prepared and administered for testing classroom
achievement of students, evaluating the method of teaching adopted by the teacher and other curricular
programmes of the school. Teacher-made test is one of the most valuable instrument in the hands of the
teacher to solve his purpose.

Standardized test: A standardized test is a method of assessment built on the principle of consistency,
that is all test takers are required to answer the same questions and all answers are graded in the same,
predetermined way.

The differences between teacher made test and standardized test are as follows ;

Firstly , Standardized Tests cover broader range of content area while Teacher-Made Tests designed to
measure achievement of a particular unit of work.

Secondly, standardized test is comprehensive and measures what the student has learned over a
particular grading period , a semester or year. A classroom test measures what has been learned over a
shorter period. With the increased emphasis on accountability in education, students are subjected
more to both tests.

Thirdly, standardized test are designed for use by many people from different schools , for example the
GCE examination is been designed for all the schools in Cameroon While Teacher made test are designed
to suit the convenience of the immediate locality where they are produced.

Also, The standardized test is developed with the help of professional writers, reviewers and
editors of tests items whereas the teacher made test usually relies upon the skill of one or two
teachers.

Further more, A standardized test is one in which norms have been established. The test has
been given to a large number of students. A norm is an average score that measures
achievement. So every standardized test has norms While Teacher made test are not normed ,
that is the teacher simply wants to measure the ability of the students.
