ROBO RACE

Problem statement:

Design a wired/wireless manually controlled robot that should be able to travel on land, water (multiple
terrains). The robot that traverses all the hurdles and completes the tracks in a minimum amount of time will be
declared as the 'ROBO RACE CHAMPION'.

Bot specification:
• The dimensions of the vehicle must be within 35cm*35cm*35cm (l*b*h).
• The robot can be wired/ wireless.
• The maximum weight of the vehicle must be 5kg including the remote and the batteries.
• In the case of wired control, the wires should be slack all the time. The minimum length of the wire must
be more than 4m.
• The power supply for the vehicle should not exceed 12V DC between any two points in the circuit at any
given time.
• The vehicle can only be powered by a battery (Lead-acid/LIPO). The power supply should be placed
either on the vehicle or to be handheld by the pilot.
• The use of readymade chassis/ RC cars is not allowed.
• The use of IC engine or compressor is not allowed. All the robots must depend only on motors for their
propulsion and control.
• Damaging the wires of the opponent will lead to disqualification.

Arena specifications:
• There will be total of two rounds. Each higher round will have obstacles with higher difficulty.
• The tracks will consist of various hurdles on its way. There will be hurdles like sand, stones, inclined,
declined surfaces and other surprise elements. The track will have curves, to check the swiftness of the
robot.
Rules:

• The participants should possess a valid identity card from their respective Institutions.
• The vehicle should undergo technical inspection one hour before the event.
• Teams must start their robots from the starting line only after a signal is given by the Referee. The timer
starts immediately after the signal is given.
• The number of participants per team should not exceed 4.
• The bot should always remain inside the track. If the bot leaves the track at any point in the time during
the race it will be considered as a "PITFALL", if bot becomes immobile and need human intervention, it
will be considered as a "PITSTOP".
• The first three pitfalls and the very first pitstop would not add any.
• Maximum of 20 seconds will be allocated for each pitstop to get the bot corrected without changing
battery or any other parts, and the bot should resume its play from the previous check point.
• Each pitfall spans for 30 seconds whereas each pitstop spans for 1 minute meaning each pitfall and each
pitstop will add 30 seconds and 1 minute respectively to the total time taken to finish the track.
• The team is not allowed to manipulate the bot. The battery cannot be replaced after entering the track.
• The number of hurdles that could be skipped would be limited and would be declared on the day of the
event. Skipping the hurdles will add 1 minute 30 seconds to the total time taken to finish the track.
• Only the pilot and a subordinate are allowed to move on the track, without disturbing the hurdles. If any
other teammates are found on the track, then the team will be directly disqualified.
• Misbehaviour of a participant will lead to disqualification.
• We are not responsible for any damage to the bot that occurred on or off the event.
• If special circumstances, such as unforeseen problems or capabilities of a robot occur, rules may be
modified.
• If there are less than 5 teams registered, the event will be cancelled.
• An attempt has maximum time duration of 10 minutes for each round.

Judging Criteria:

• The total time taken (including the penalties and the skips) to complete the whole track for all the three
rounds is solely considered. The robot which completes the tracks in the least time is declared as the
winner.
• Wireless controlled robots will have some advantage in the tracks.
• In case of a tie then other factors such as no of pitfalls etc. are considered.
• The referee's decision will be final.
Line Following Robot

Problem statement:

The challenge is to drive through the track while following a black line against a white background and tackling
the surprise challenges on the arena which will be disclosed on the day of the competition. The quickest and most
intelligent robot will be declared as the winner.

Bot Specification:

• At any point in time and any configuration of the bot, it should fit inside a box with dimensions of
30cm*30cm*30cm (l*b*h).
• The power supply should be on-board and maximum voltage between any two points on the circuit at any
given time should not exceed 12V DC.
• The bot should be fully autonomous.
• A maximum of 5 sensors can be used on the robot.

Arena Specifications:

• The track will be consisting of a black line of width 2.5cm to 4cm, on a white background.
• The track may contain:
✓ Wedges of inclination of less than 30º
✓ Sharp Turns
✓ Loops
✓ Discontinuities
✓ Other surprise elements
✓ The track contains checkpoints at regular intervals
Rules:

• The team must start their robot at the start line when the signal is given by the Referee.
• The timer starts as soon as the signal is given.
• The use of readymade chassis/ bot is not allowed.
• A small part of the track shall be disclosed, for calibration purpose, 30 minutes before the event.
• Once the calibration is done all the teams must submit their bots before the event and they won't be
allowed to modify the bot before they place their bot on the track.
• If at any point of time the robot gets immobile or gets out of the track or is touched by the participants, it
would be considered as a PITSTOP and an opportunity will be given to repair or relocate the robot.
• The contestant can relocate by placing the bot at any point on the track behind the last crossed
checkpoint. The bot should be placed such that the bot's lateral axis is perpendicular to the track.
• Maximum of 1 minute will be allocated per each pitstop.
• The first three pitstops are free of penalty. After the third pitstop, the timer won't be stopped.
• Maximum of two persons are allowed to touch the robot.
• The code can be modified only one times during the whole track.
• The robot must be brought in for specification check before one hour of the commencement of the event.
• Referee's decision will be final.

Fouls:

• The robot violating any of the rules described above will be disqualified from the competition.
• Any kind of interference by the participant which affects the robot direction or speed will be considered
as a pitstop and force the team to restart from the previous checkpoint.
• Robots or participants causing deliberate interference with other robots or damage to the field will be
disqualified.
• Participants who misbehave may be asked to leave the competition area and risk being disqualified from
the contest.

Judging Criteria:

• The only factor considered is the time taken to complete the whole track. The robot which completes the
track in the least time is declared as the winner.
• In case if there is any tie between two teams then other factors such as no. of pitstops taken etc are
considered.
• Referee's Decision will be final.
Robo war

Problem statement:

The robots are tested for elimination in the preliminary rounds, so only the best robots survive in the arena.
✓ Flex your Muscles: The first is the weight push test, where the bots have to push weights to move on in
the event.
✓ Arena: Arena consists of a square surface made up of wood. The arena is covered by barricades, so as to
prevent parts of the robot flying out of the arena. The time allotted for a battle is 3 minutes. The robot has
to either immobilize the opponent or throw it out of the arena. The robot to win the battle is allowed to
continue in the event, the opponent is knocked out. The robot to reach the final battle and win it will grab
the title of the championship.

General Rules:

• The team cannot touch the robot after the wrestle begins.
• The robot must be wireless, either manually controlled or autonomous. Wire controlled bots are strictly
prohibited and will be disqualified.
• The robot is not allowed to project any solid/liquid substance on other robots or the track.
• Weapons like, guns, flame throwers, etc., are not allowed. Magnetic weapons are specifically prohibited.
• Weapons like cutter, knife or any sharp object can be used with caution.
• The judge's decision will be final.
• The bots should have temporary fastening so that the judges can inspect the bot if necessary.
• The bot should be easily controlled from a distance of 5 Meters at all levels.
• Any team that loses control of the bot from the assigned place will automatically lose the round.

Dynamic events:

Weight pushing test:

• The bot has to push a minimum weight of 1Kg to qualify for the next round. Further points will be
awarded based on how fast the bot can push a weight of one kg and higher weights of increment 1kg.

Track test:
• The bot has to finish the simple track to qualify for the next round. Further points will be awarded based
on how fast the bot can finish the track. The track may consist of slippery, sticky, rocky path.
The Ultimate Wrestle:

• This will be a one-on-one challenge.

• A match between two robots will consist of 3 rounds. The maximum time of each round will be 3
minutes.
• A robot is declared victorious if its opponent is immobilized or pushed down from the arena.
• A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display a linear motion of at least one inch in a period of
30 seconds.
• If the robot is pushed out of the arena the round will stop immediately and the robot inside the arena will
be declared the winner of that round.

Technical Specifications:

• The machine can be powered electrically only. Onboard batteries must be sealed (leak proof),
immobilized-electrolyte types (such as gel cells, lithium, NiCad or dry cells).
• The electric voltage between 2 points anywhere in the machine should not be more than 24V on DC at
any point of time.
• All efforts must be made to protect battery terminals from a direct short and causing a battery fire, failure
to do so will cause direct disqualification.
• The use of damaged, non-leak proof batteries may lead to disqualification.
• Special care should be taken to protect the on-board batteries. If judges found that the battery is not
properly protected, then the team will be disqualified immediately.
• Only bots with onboard batteries are allowed.
• The robot should fit in a box of dimensions 50cm x 50cm x 40cm (l*b*h), with all mechanisms fully
executing motions.
• All bots must have easily visible and controlled mobility in order to compete. Method of mobility should
be rolling (wheels, tracks or the whole robot).
• Bots built using readily available kits/purchased bots will be disqualified.
• Jumping and hopping are not allowed. Flying (using aerofoil, helium balloons, etc.) is not allowed.
• The weight of the robot should not exceed 11 Kg excluding the remote.
• The robot must be wireless
• It is suggested to have an extra battery ready and charged up during the competition so that on advancing
to the next level, you don't have to wait or suffer due to uncharged battery. If teams don't show up on
allotted slots, they will be disqualified.
Judging:
Criteria for Victory:
• A robot is declared victorious if its opponent is immobilized.
• A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least one inch in a timed period
of 30 seconds. A bot with one side of its drive train disabled will not be counted out if it can demonstrate
some degree of controlled movement. In case both the robots remain mobile after the end of the round
then the winner will be decided subjectively.
• A robot that is deemed unsafe by the judges after the match has begun will be disqualified and therefore
declared the loser. The match will be immediately halted and the opponent will be awarded a win.
• If a robot is thrown out of the arena the match will stop immediately, and the robot still inside the arena
will automatically be declared as the winner.
• Robots cannot win by pinning or lifting their opponent's i.e., a bot can pin or lift opponent bot only till
the black border of the arena, but cannot throw the opponent out only by pinning or lifting. Organizers
will allow pinning or lifting for a maximum of 20 seconds per pin/ lift, and then the attacker robot will be
instructed to release the opponent. If, after being instructed to do so, the attacker does not release the bot,
their robot may be disqualified. If two or more robots become entangled or a crushing or gripping
weapon is employed and becomes trapped within another robot, then the competitors should make the
Volunteers aware, the fight should be stopped and the robots separated by the safest means.
• Points will be given based on aggression, damage, control, and strategy.
✓ Aggression - Aggression is judged by the frequency, severity, boldness, and effectiveness of
attacks deliberately initiated by the robot against its opponent. If a robot appears to have
accidentally attacked an opponent, that act will not be considered Aggression.
✓ Control - Control means a robot is able to attack an opponent at its weakest point.
✓ Damage - Through deliberate action, a robot either directly or indirectly reduces the functionality,
effectiveness or defensibility of an opponent. Damage is not considered relevant if a robot
inadvertently harms itself.
✓ Strategy - The robot exhibits a combat plan that exploits the robot's strengths against the
weaknesses of its opponent.

NOTE:-
** Judge's decision will be final. No arguments shall be made against the decisions made by the judges.
** Organizing team can make changes with regards to the rules if needed; the updates will be announced
before the event.
ROBO SOCCER

Problem statement:

Design a wired/wireless manually controlled robot that should be able to guide the given ball to the goal post.
The robot that scores the maximum goals at the end of two halves will be declared as the 'ROBO SOCCER
CHAMPION'.

Bot specification:
• The dimensions of the vehicle must be within 30cm*30cm*30cm (l*b*h).

• Arena Dimensions are 6*4 feet. The arena will have walled boundaries with two goal posts, the ball used
in the game will be a tennis ball or rubber ball.
• Arena is made up of wood.
Rules:

• The participants should possess a valid identity card from their respective Institutions.
• The vehicle should undergo technical inspection one hour before the event.
• Teams must start their robots only after a signal is given by the Referee. The timer starts immediately
after the signal is given.
• The number of participants per team should not exceed 4.
• The soccer bot can only transform to its size at the beginning meaning It cannot divide later into multiple
parts.
• Once the weight of the bot is finalized no modifications in the weight will be allowed. Each team will be
given 2 minutes at the beginning of each half to make any changes or modifications to the bot
(modification in weight is not allowed).
• In the beginning, the bot must touch or hit the ball within 10 seconds. if it fails to do so, the opponent can
move his bot if the bot becomes immobile during the match, the team will first be given 60 seconds to fix
it without any loss of points. If the team fails to fix it in 60 seconds, another 60 seconds will be given at
the expense of 1 point.
• If the team does not repair the bot within this time, then it will be disqualified also, no stalling of any
kind is allowed.
• Only the pilot and a subordinate are allowed control the bot, without disturbing the arena. If any other
teammates are found on the controlling track, then the team will be directly disqualified.
• The match will be paused in case of any entanglement of wires of both the bots. If the ball is immobile
for 10 seconds, then the game will be reset and the ball will be declared as the common ball.
• Misbehaviour of a participant will lead to disqualification.
• The ball may not be lifted in the air by the bot.
• In case only one team is disqualified, the opponent team wins by default.
• We are not responsible for any damage to the bot that occurred on or off the event.
• If special circumstances, such as unforeseen problems or capabilities of a robot occur, rules may be
modified.
• If there are less than 5 teams registered, the event will be cancelled.
Judging Criteria:

• In the beginning, a toss will decide the first hold over the ball. The winner of the toss will get possession
of the ball at the centre of the arena, whereas the opponent will have to defend the post. The match will
consist of two halves.
• The duration of one half will depend on the type of match, Initial knockout matches will be of 2 minutes,
Quarter and semi-final will be of 5 minutes and Final will be of 5 minutes.
• In case of a draw, an extra time of 2 minutes will be given.
• The bot with maximum goals at the end of the match will be declared as winner of that match.
• Bot aggression, goal time may be considered under certain circumstances.
• The referee's decision will be final.
