MOTIVATION
by Monse heredia
What is
motivation?
Motivation is the psychic energy that pushes us to
undertake or sustain an action or a behavior. Its
disappearance necessarily entails the abandonment of what
is being done. This is why it is much more difficult to achieve
objectives when there is a lack of motivation.
(Rogers,2013)
In educational contexts, motivation is what triggers us to
act to learn English, to learn to teach English, or to teach it.
This basic explanation acknowledges the four elements that
it includes:
* The reasons why we want to learn
* The strength of our desire to learn
* The kind of person we are
* The task and our estimation of what it requires of us (McDonough, 2007, pp. 369-371

In the classrom are regularly reported to be basic hidrances to
effective teaching (Daniels,1994). In the light of this, it is
hard to believe that until the mid-1990s there had been no
serious attempts in the L2 literature to design motivational
strategies for classrom application. With the shift from social
psychological to more cognitive- situated perspectives in the
1990s, the increased focus on classrom motivation led to a
number of publications on motivational techniques
