CLC 12 - Final Capstone Proposal and Reflection
Name: Cassidy Hermanson
Topic: Mental Health Based Art Pieced
Focus Area: Product Creation Focus
Inquiry Question: How effective is art at raising awareness about mental health?
Presentation Method: Power Point
Presentation Time & Date: Monday January 22, 2024, 9:50 – 10:10
1) Capstone Project Summary:
In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300-word summary highlighting the key points and
information that you plan to present during your Capstone Project presentation.
When my presenting day comes, I will be talking about how I connect with my capstone, as well as how it
can connect with others. I will be mentioning how everyone can view art in different ways which leads
others to connecting to it on all levels. The power point will show the struggles I faced along the way and
how I overcame them. I will be pointing out the highlights of the project and the underlying meaning of
the art piece. While presenting I will be mentioning how you can express emotion in ways other than just
words. I will show how throughout working on my capstone I have shown great person awareness and
responsibility by setting clear goals and focusing on the important details. It ties into mental health
because the paintings represent how people feel. When someone has mental health issues they believe
that they are the only one going through the troubles. This painting will demonstrate that you are not
alone.
2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project or the work we’ve done in CLC 12 Class demonstrates
your abilities and skills from each section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two
points from each skill area of the core competencies.) *This was also done in your Capstone Draft
Proposal, so if the skills and abilities still apply and have not changed, then you can copy and paste
your answers in the Final Capstone Proposal*
Core Competency: How you demonstrate it in Capstone Project:
Personal Awareness & Since I started coaching soccer I have set goals to make each practice or
Responsibility game better than the next and at times it can be very difficult not to get
mad but I take a minute to think and separate my emotion from what I
am doing which can make it easier to focus. This ties into my capstone
because it has helped me with goal setting and doing simple things that
can make you happy go along way.
Social Responsibility When meeting new people, I will never treat them differently for what they
believe in, what they are going through, who they are as a person. Unless they
have given me a reason to not like them but other than that I believe everyone
deserves the same respect and no one should be belittled for who they are. I
may make decisions without thinking about my own consequences, but I try to
put others first all the time. I value equality. My capstone ties into the value of
equality because you cant judge someone for what they are going through, you
need to be open minded.
Critical Thinking I believe that I am good at critiquing my work, and a little too much at times. If I
find I am not really understanding what I am learning, I will keep going over my
notes and if I still don’t understand I will ask for help. Throughout working on
my capstone I have faced the challenges of over critiquing my work which leads
me to taking longer on something than I expected.
Creative Thinking
Communication I am really good at constantly thinking of ideas for all different things and if it
doesn’t work then I have no problem thinking of a solution, like when I was
planning out my capstone project idea. I had many ideas that would have
worked as well as the one I picked.
Personal & Cultural Identity

I will need my teacher to bring a HDMI cord for me to be able to connect my computer to the tv to show my
power point.
b) What will you need to bring in order to do your Capstone presentation?
I will need to bring my computer and my paintings that will need to be transferred in a garbage
bag to avoid being ruined.
c) What still needs to be completed between now and your Capstone presentation day?
I still need to finish 2 out of 5 of the paintings.
4) References and explanation of sources:

Final Capstone Project Reflection Questions
(Please give specific detailed answers.)
1. In the process of completing your Capstone Project, what did you learn about your subject? What did
you learn about your skill set? What did you learn about yourself?
What I learnt about this subject is that everyone views a piece of art differently, some people pick out all the
imperfections, some people relate to it and others ignore it. While doing this project I learnt that I am a better
artist than I thought. I didn’t think I was going to be able to paint that many portraits without giving up on it.
2. How is your project relevant to you? How is it relevant to the school? How is it relevant to the
community?
I have struggled with mental health issues for a very long time and this project has let me express how I feel
and connect with others who feel the same way. This art piece is able to help people connect on how they feel
so no one feels alone. Many people hide how they feel because they think they are the only ones going
through a tough time, but many people are struggling, they just don’t come out and say it.
3. What impact did your Capstone have on you?
My Capstone impacted me by showing me that I can go above my expectations by setting clear goals and
putting in effort to achieve what I want.
4. What aspects of your project are you most proud of?
There isn't just one thing I am proud of when it comes to the project. I believe that all aspects of it are done to
the best of my ability with 110% effort. I am proud of how I didn’t give up despite the bumps I faced along the
way. If I had to pick one thing to be proud of it would be the detail, I put into each of the faces.
5. What was a difficulty you encountered while researching your Capstone project? How were you able to
overcome those obstacles?
A difficulty I faced when it came to researching the project was finding the best reference photos that I could
replicate the best.
6. What is the one thing you would have changed about your project if you could?
If I could change one thing about my project would be the quality of paint I used. Since I can't afford the
expensive high-quality paint, I had to go for the dollar store and Walmart brand of paint which don’t have the
same pigmentation.
7. What advice would you offer to future Capstone students to help them with their Capstone journey?
My advice would be, don’t procrastinate. It’s so much more stressful when you don’t do anything until the last
week when its due, just do it.
