I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Filipino subjects are often said to be a boring subject for some Filipinos especially students.

Filipino teachers most of the time have a hard time teaching this subject because of this factor in

students mind, but there are some teachers who is really good in teaching Filipino subject. There

are some conversations from the students that we can heard about talking boring things about this

subject. For instance, they do not really pay attention because they do know everything about it

because Filipino children learn to speak the language quite easily and naturally. In households like

ours where the Filipino language is used daily in almost all instances. However, there are some

Filipino students have a hard time being literate at it. This would include speaking, understanding

it, writing it, and reading it. Those are some factors that makes Filipino subject difficult and at the

same time being plain and boring.

As a facilitator in the classroom, teacher must take a huge step to overcome those problems.

In this situation, motivation plays a crucial role in teaching-learning process in times of present

condition in our country, where the class sessions are done virtually.

Motivation given by the teachers is a huge thing for the students. It is a thing that moves

us and push as forward. It is the reason we do anything at all (Chuter, 2021). Motivation is an

influential factor in teaching learning process. The success of learning depends on high or low

motivation of students. It can drive learners in reaching learning goal. Therefore, motivation is the

key to success in learning teaching process. Without motivation, the goal of learning is difficult to

be reached. By having motivation students will be enthusiastic in teaching learning process.

In today’s situation where the classes are done virtually it is very easy for the teacher to

boost the student’s motivation in teaching-learning process (Layton 2020). Maximizing the use of

technology is very helpful for the students to enjoy and have some fun in le arning. In using

technology as a tool in learning should have some spices in order to catch students’ interest towards

the subject or specific topic. Utilizing technology helps engaged learners of this generation because

they are considered technological learners. They learn best being more interactive, and technology

is what helps them do that. Children often struggle to stay on task or interested, and with resources

to help the teacher, they can better stay focused and learn faster (Wantulok 2015).

According to School of education 2020, technology in today’s situation is very necessary,

through the spread of Covid-19 and the hit of pandemic is quickly demonstrating why online

education should be a vital part of teaching and learning. By integrating technology into existing

curricula, as opposed to using it solely as a crisis-management tool, teachers can harness online

learning as a powerful educational tool to motivate students in learning.

We all know that students can learn a lot more from the visual material, so it is a great way

to start changing your teaching approach with some educational videos. There are many ways in

which you can boost not just their motivation for learning through visual and video materials, but

Laguna, Philippines

KOLEHIYO NG EDUKASYON, SINING AT AGHAM 3

also your own motivation for teaching. If you feel that your lessons have become stuck in a r ut,

and that your teaching could use a new approach, then this is a great way to start using technology

and introducing some changes. There are so many educational videos that you can find, the

resources are absolutely limitless, but you can also make your own.

One of the most effective products of technology that every teachers can utilize is an Audio

visual presentation. In definition Audio-visual refers to both sound and pictures which is typically

in the form of slides or video and recorded speech or music; all is visual presentations that are

shown by the teacher to the students. It can be called as a new trend because technology is used in

this method such as, computers, slides, videos, televisions, language laboratories or the others

which can support the teaching learning process in order to improve students’ skills

(Gustavorernesto 2021)

Additionally, audio visual aids are important in education system. Audio visual aids are

those devices which are used in classrooms to encourage teaching learning process and make it

easier and interesting. Audio -visual aids are the best tool for making teaching effective and the

best dissemination of knowledge. Therefore, there is no doubt that technical devices have greater

impact and dynamic informative system. teaching aids arouse the interest of learners and help the

teachers to explain the concepts easily. Undoubtedly, audio visual aids those instructional aids

which are used in the classroom to encourage teaching learning process.

KOLEHIYO NG EDUKASYON, SINING AT AGHAM 4

Compared to traditional instructional material, the audio-visual allows teachers to

demonstrate things to students that, otherwise, may not be clearly conveyed. However, when you

can demonstrate something through sight and sound, students pick up more information through

the audiovisual experience (Sheahan 2018). For instance, when the teacher is explaining the root

of Filipino subject, it is expected that explaining the history of it will make the students feel bored

and unmotivated to listen- a video clip about the topic the gives the students a fun academic

experience that they could not obtain from a traditional discussion.

Currently, in the class that the researcher’s observed students are experiencing a lack of

motivation to answer and ask a question to the whole class. We, the researchers observed that there

a little integration of technology especially an Audio-visual technology in class. That is why the

focus of this research is to determine if using audio-visual presentation actually enhance the

student’s motivation.

II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTION

This study aims to determine the use of Audo-visual presentation to enhance students’

motivation for Grade 11- TVL 1 of Cabuyao Institute of Technology – CITECH in the School

Year 2020-2021.

1. What is the level of motivation of the respondents without using audio-visual presentation in

the class discussion?

2. What is the level of motivation of the respondents with using audio-visual presentation in the

class discussion?

3. Is there any significant difference in students’ motivation of the respondents after implementing

the utilization of Audio-visual presentation?

4. How the audio-visual presentation improves learners’ motivation in learning?

5. What is the motivation level of the respondents after implementing the audio-visual

presentation?

III. INNOVATION, INTERVENTON, STRATEGY

Cabuyao institute of Technology – CITECH is one of the schools using a software to

conduct online learning through the used of Microsoft Word. The teachers and learners are trying

their best to cope up with the transition in teaching-learning process during the time of pandemic.

KOLEHIYO NG EDUKASYON, SINING AT AGHAM 6

During the transition of learning many problems rises about the new mode of learning, one of the

biggest problems is lack of motivation in learning. Since the Cabuyao institute of Technology –

CITECH is already using a software to conduct a virtual class, the researchers came up with the

intervention to maximize the use of technology through the use of audio-visual presentation to

enhance students’ motivation in learning.

Basically, audio-visual presentation are teaching tools that educators use to complement

their academic lessons. For instance, audiovisual aids include videos, music clips, games, social

media software, flip charts, slideshow presentations and overhead transparencies.

Since student now a days are experiencing the use of audio-visual through surfing on the

internet, audio-visual presentation are very helpful to use in academic purpose through enhance

student motivation in learning. One of primary goal of implementing audio-visual presentation is

to increase students’ motivation despite of losing interesting in learning because of the pandemic.

Furthermore, as a facilitator we do not want our students to get bored with more traditional

methods or plain discussion. Advantages of audio aids is even more apparent in novelty teaching

methods. Audio-visual aids can be used in the classroom as an attention-getting strategy and also

as a way to increase student involvement. When experiencing something new that engages his

senses, a student is more likely to be engaged in the task and to remember the experience and

presented information. Using audio in an unexpected way can add novelty to a lesson and

potentially spark an academic improvement. Teachers can try beginning a lesson with a song or

KOLEHIYO NG EDUKASYON, SINING AT AGHAM 7

use recordings of foreign languages when teaching about other cultures. The more unexpected the

audio activity is, the more novel that activity is for the students.

Teachers have many teaching methods available to reach their students. Using audio aids

in teaching can improve student performance by engaging them on a different level. Moreover,

using audio-visual in virtual class depends on the topic and the assessment of the instructor from

the students such as their interest and needs, because for instance we cannot force or implement a

specific audio-visual strategy or instructional material that is not anchor to the students’ needs and

interest, also to the need of the lesson.

According to Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, students learn in a

variety of different ways including through listening or auditory input. Some students are better

auditory learners than others and may see more academic improvement when audio aids are used

in the classroom. Teachers serve students best by instructing to all academic levels in the

classroom. With students learning at different paces and through different methods, using audio

aids in teaching is one way of achieving engagement and better retention of ideas. Rather than

relying solely on speech through direct instruction, teachers can also include listening activities

focused around music, noises and interactive listening assignments.

It is important for the instructor to ensure and implement the right audio-visual presentation

from class. First, the instructor needs to make an assessment based on what the students’ needs

and what type of audio-visual aids they are into. Secondly, the instructor needs to do some

observation to gather more data and it should be right because the slightest piece of information

that are being gathered can lead to the wrong picking of audio-visual presentation. Third and lastly,

the instructor should also choose a relevant type of audio-visual because those are things that

learners want because they can relate and anchor their experience from the instructional materials

through that we can ensure that we can create a fun learning environment that can increase

students’ motivation in learning.
