2. Pressurization Control Inspection
A. Cabin Altitude Limit Controllers Functional Check (Ref. Figure 601).
NOTE: This procedure requires the airplane to be placed in the "air mode", either on jacks
or by setting the left main landing gear safety switch into the air mode. For airplanes
in compliance with MTB-32-01, the left and right main landing gear safety switches
must both be placed in the air mode.
(1) On the copilot circuit breaker panel, disengage the FLAP MOTOR and FLAP IND & CONTROL
circuit breakers.
(2) Disconnect the bleed air tube (1) from the bulkhead union (3) on the forward side of the left
engine firewall (2) (Ref Figure 601, Detail A).
(3) Install a plug in the open end of the bleed air tube (1).
(4) Connect a regulated/filtered shop air source to the bulkhead union (3) on the forward side of the
left engine firewall (2). The air source must be capable of providing the necessary air flow and
pressure to achieve five to six inches hg on the vacuum gage.
NOTE: The cabin altitude limit controllers (4) are installed between FS 350.00 and FS
360.75 on the right side of the cabin at approximately WL 100.00 (Ref. Figure
601, Detail C).
(5) Remove the baggage compartment lower sidewall panel that covers the cabin altitude limit
controllers (4).
(6) Open fuselage access door 172BBR (Ref. 06-50-00, 001) to get access to the outflow (5) and
safety (6) valve.
(7) Remove the cabin air port fitting (7) and screen (8) from the each cabin altitude limit controller
(4).
(8) Perform the CONNECTING AND APPLYING EXTERNAL POWER procedure (Ref. 24-40-00
201).
(9) Move the BATT switch on the left outboard sub panel to the ON position.
(10) Move the EXT PWR switch on the left outboard sub panel to the ON position.
(11) Make sure that the CABIN PRESS switch on the center pedestal is in the PRESS position.
(12) Make sure that the safety valve (6) is in the closed position.
(13) Connect a Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) and Test Altimeter (029, Tools) to the cabin
air port (9) of the forward cabin altitude limit controller (4).
(14) Slowly adjust the pressure of the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) until the Test Altimeter
(029, Tools) shows 13,500 ±1500 feet.

(15) The safety valve (6) should start to open when the Test Altimeter (029, Tools) shows 13,500
±1500 feet.
NOTE: If the vacuum source does not have the ability to overcome the loss of vacuum
when the limiter opens, the safety valve will not move. The point at which the
altitude will no longer increase when more vacuum is applied is the point at which
the limiter starts to open.
(16) Adjust the pressure of the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) until the Test Altimeter (029,
Tools) shows 0 feet.
(17) Disconnect the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) and Test Altimeter (029, Tools) from the
cabin air port (9) of the forward cabin altitude limit controller (4).
(18) Set the CABIN PRESS switch to the DUMP position.
(19) Make sure that the outflow valve (5) is in the closed position.
(20) Connect the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) and Test Altimeter (029, Tools) to the cabin
air port (9) of the aft cabin altitude limit controller (4).
(21) Slowly adjust the pressure of the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) to until the Test
Altimeter (029, Tools) shows 13,500 ±1500 feet.
(22) The outflow valve (5) should start to open when the Test Altimeter (029, Tools) shows 13,500
±1500 feet.
NOTE: If the vacuum source does not have the ability to overcome the loss of vacuum
when the limiter opens, the outflow valve will not move. The point at which the
altitude will no longer increase when more vacuum is applied is the point at which
the limiter starts to open.
(23) Adjust the pressure of the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) to until the Test Altimeter (029,
Tools) shows 0 feet.
(24) Disconnect the Regulated Vacuum Source (112, Tools) and Test Altimeter (029, Tools) from the
cabin air port (9) of the aft cabin altitude limit controller (4).
(25) Move the CABIN PRESS switch on the center pedestal to the PRESS position.
(26) Move the EXT PWR switch on the left outboard sub panel to the OFF position.
(27) Move the BATT switch on the left outboard sub panel to the OFF position.
(28) Install the screen (8) and cabin air port fitting (7) on each cabin altitude limit controller (4).
(29) Perform the DISCONNECTING EXTERNAL POWER procedure (Ref. 24-40-00, 201).
(30) Close fuselage access door 172BBR (Ref. 06-50-00, 001).
(31) Install the baggage compartment lower sidewall panel that covers the cabin altitude limit
controllers (4).
(32) Disconnect the regulated/filtered shop air source from the bulkhead union (3) on the forward
side of the left engine firewall (2).
(33) Remove the plug in the of the bleed air tube (1).
(34) Connect the bleed air tube (1) to the bulkhead union (3) on the forward side of the left engine
firewall (2).
(35) If the airplane is on jacks, lower the airplane and remove the jacks.
(36) If the left and right main landing gear safety switches are in the air mode, return the switches to
the ground mode.
(37) On the copilot circuit breaker panel, engage the FLAP MOTOR and FLAP IND & CONTROL
circuit breakers.
