Desain Pabrik Kimia - (I)

QUIZ 1

ANSWER

Based on the table above, calculations are carried out using the following formula
(𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑡ℎ 2017−𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑡ℎ 2016)
• Production Growth 2016-2017 = 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑡ℎ 2016
(524750−495839)
= = 0,058307230
495839
• Calculate the F value of imports, exports, and production
▪ F Production => 𝐹 = 𝑃 (1 + 𝑖)𝑛
= 533170(1 + 0,01870)2023−2020
= 563660,1 𝑡𝑜𝑛
▪ F Export => 𝐹Export = 𝑃export (1 + 𝑖)𝑛
= 22100(1 + (−0,00241))2023−2020
= 21940,26 𝑡𝑜𝑛
▪ FImport => 𝐹Import = 𝑃Import (1 + 𝑖)𝑛
= 1004454(1 + 0,041894)2023−2020
= 1136060 𝑡𝑜𝑛
▪ FConsumption => 𝐹Consumption = 𝑃Consumption (1 + 𝑖)𝑛
= 1515524(1 + 0,033501)2023−2020
= 1672999 𝑡𝑜𝑛
• So the need for ethylene in 2023 is assumed = the factory meets 12% of
imports. Thus,
𝐸𝑡hyl𝑒𝑛e 2023 = (𝐹Consumption + 𝐹Export ) − (𝐹Production + 0,88(𝐹Import ))
𝐸𝑡hy𝑙𝑒𝑛e 2023 = (1672999 + 21940,26) − (563660,1 + (0,88 x
1136060))
𝐸𝑡hy𝑙𝑒𝑛e 2023 = 131546,5 𝑡𝑜𝑛/year

The raw material for ethylene is ethanol

• Assumption:
• Ethylene production is carried out in Karanganyar, close to the largest
ethanol producer PT.Indocidatama (Alatas, 2021)
• PT Indocidatama's ethanol production is not used for other ethylene plants
• 1 KL ethanol = 1 MT ethylene

Ethanol raw material

PT Production :
Etanol Production Total
2020 51823 KL
2021 53626 KL
2020-2021 0,0348 KL/year
Estimated Needs in 2023 57422 KL

So the remaining unused materials in 2023 are:

57422,37 – 53626 = 3796,37 𝐾𝐿

So the capacity of the ethylene plant that can be made,
Assumption: ethylene plant productivity is 92%

3796,37 𝐾𝐿𝑥 92% = 𝟑𝟒𝟗𝟐, 𝟔𝟔 𝑴𝑻/𝒕𝒂𝒉𝒖𝒏

This production can meet national needs of 0,209674 %

ANSWER
By taking several parameters from the available aspects, I analyzed the process licencor
selection using expert choice software. V.11

• After selecting several parameters to be used, the step taken is to set the
priority of the available parameters. The following results were obtained:
• Then compare the parameters and sub-parameters that have been selected in
the following way:

• After filling in the weight comparison of all parameters and sub-parameters,

the final results are as follows:

From the simulation results, it can be concluded that the overall Inconsistency value meets
the requirements (below 0.1 or 10%) that the Stamicarbon process technology is superior
with a value of 67% compared to the Saipem process technology with a value of 33%.
Therefore, the Stamicarbon process technology is the selected process technology.
ANSWER

• Known :
Inlet temperature (T1) = 30 Celsius = 86 ℉
Outlet temperature (T2) = 40 Celsius = 104 ℉
Inlet pressure (P1) = 11 bar = 159.5 psia = 1100 kPa
Exit pressure (P2) = 251 bar = 3640.5 psia = 25100 kPa
Intercooler compressor with water fluid temperature of 25℃, so that the gas
outlet comp = 40 ℃
Rate volume (N)= 3100 m3/hour = 0.8611111 m3/s

a. The number of compression stages required.

Calculate the overall compression ratio, Rc (Overall compression ratio, Rc (Ludwig vol III, p.
369) as follows:

𝑃𝑑
𝑅𝑐 =
𝑃𝑠

Where, Ps as suction pressure is 159.5 psia, and Pd as discharge pressure is 3640.5 psia. So
the Rc value is as follows:

3640.5
𝑅𝑐 = = 22.82
159.5

According to Table 12-1, Ludwig vol III, Page 369, Rc value max/stage = 10 for
reciprocating compressors; so that the number of compressor stages is:

𝑅𝑐 𝑚𝑎𝑥 22.82
𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑠 = = = 2.282 = 3 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑠
10 10

b. Compression ratio value for each compression stage.

compression stage (r)

1
𝑃𝑑 𝑛
𝐶𝑅𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒 =( )
𝑃𝑠

With a number of stages of 5, the compression ratio value for each stage is obtained as
follows:
1
3640.5 3
𝐶𝑅𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒 =( ) = 2.8
159.5
c. Brake horse power (BHP) value for each compression stage and the total.
With an efficiency value of 0.75, dan ϒ = Cp/Cv (from methane)=1.3538
• Calculate the Polytropic coefficient:
ϒ × 𝜂𝑝
𝑛=
ϒ × 𝜂𝑝 − ϒ + 1

With ϒ = 1.3538 value , and 𝜂 p= 0.75, produces the following values:

1.3538 × 0.75
𝑛= = 1.5348
1.3538 × 0.75 − 1.3538 + 1

After getting the Polytropic coefficient, you can calculate Brake horse power:
𝑛 × 𝑃𝑖𝑛 𝐹𝑖𝑛 𝑁 n−1
𝑊= × (1 − 𝑟 n )
(𝑛 − 1) × 𝜂𝑝

1.5301 × 1100 × 1000 × 0.8611 1.5301−1

𝑊= × (1 − 2.8 1.5301 )
(1.5301 − 1) × 0.75

𝑊 = −1587605.268 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑡

𝑊 = −1587.605 𝑘𝑊

𝐵𝐻𝑃 = 2129.01 ℎ𝑝
d. The horse power (HP) value at the motor output, if the compressor is driven by an
electric motor via a crankshaft frame, through the following correlation with HP = 1.05
x BHP.

The HP and BHP correlation formula is known:

𝐻𝑃 = 1.05 𝑥 𝐵𝐻𝑃
Thus,

𝐻𝑃 = 1.05 𝑥 2129.01 = 2235 ℎ𝑝
