KAUFMAN TEST OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT – THIRD EDITION (KTEA-3)
The Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement – Third Edition (KTEA-3) is an individually administered standardized
measure of academic achievement for grades pre-kindergarten through 12, or ages 4 through 25 years. This
comprehensive assessment evaluates key reading, math, written language, and oral language skills, and allows the
examiner to administer a single subtest or any combinations of subtests to assess achievement in one or more domains.

Test Interpretation (Extended Version)
Student Name’s overall academic achievement was assessed using the KTEA-3. His Academic Skills Battery (ASB)
Composite reflects Descriptor achievement with a standard score of Std. S, which places him in the % percentile of his
same age peers. The Academic Skills Battery Composite incorporates the standard scores obtained within the following
core composites: Reading, Math, and Written Language.
Reading Composite (Core). The Reading Composite consists of the following two subtests: Letter & Word Recognition
and Reading Comprehension. The scores from these subtests provide a measure of how the student reads sight words and
unpredictable word patterns and then how well student comprehends literal and inferential information. Student Name
achieved a standard score of Std. Score, falling in the Descriptor range with a percentile rank of Percentile. Student
Name’s scores indicate Choose an item. in his reading performance.
The Letter & Word Recognition subtest measures the ability to recognize letters and words and includes both regular
words (read correctly by applying phonological decoding principles) and irregular words (read correctly if student is
familiar with the word) and is an indirect measure of reading vocabulary. Student Name performed in the Descriptor range
on this subtest with a standard score of Std. Score, placing him in the % percentile of his same age peers.
The Reading Comprehension subtest measures the ability to derive meaning from contextualized print and the
foundational skills required for comprehension rather than word recognition or decoding accuracy. The passage items
emphasize the ability to extract meaning from a set of related sentences and deemphasize vocabulary knowledge. Student
Name performed in the Descriptor range on this subtest with a standard score of Std. Score, placing him in the %
percentile of his same age peers.
Math Composite (Core). The Math Composite consists of the following two subtests: Math Concepts & Applications
and Math Computation. The score from these subtests provide a measure regarding the student’s mathematical problem-
solving ability and computational skills. Student Name achieved a standard score of Std. Score, falling in the Descriptor
range with a percentile rank of Percentile. Student Name’s scores indicate Choose an item. in his math performance.
The Math Concepts & Application subtest measures reasoning and mathematical concepts and their application to
meaningful problem solving. Skill categories include number concepts, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
tables/graphs, time and money, geometry, measurement, fractions, decimals & %, data investigation, algebra, multistep,
W
and word problems. Student Name performed in the Descriptor range on this subtest with a standard score of Std. Score,
placing him in the % percentile of his same age peers.
The Math Computation subtest measures numeration, basic operations, computations with zero, fractions, decimals,
algebra, roots and exponents, signed numbers, binomials and factorial expansion – within each category the items increase
in complexity. Each item focuses on demonstrating whether the student has mastered a specific fact, skill, or process.
Student Name performed in the Descriptor range on this subtest with a standard score of Std. Score, placing him in the %
percentile of his same age peers.
IE
Written Language Composite (Core). The Written Language Composite consists of the following two subtests: Written
Expression and Spelling. The score from these subtests provide a measure regarding the student’s ability to communicate
effectively in writing and to spell words in isolation and in context. Student Name achieved a standard score of Std. Score,
falling in the Descriptor range with a percentile rank of Percentile. Student Name’s scores indicate Choose an item. in his
written language performance.

to the word in the sentence that has a similar meaning to the target word. Student Name performed in the Descriptor range
on this subtest with a standard score of Std. Score, placing him in the % percentile of his same age peers.
EV
Oral Language (Supplemental Composite). The Oral Language Composite includes the Associational Fluency,
