BODY TYPE

GUIDE
Get ready to discover the best guide to your
body shape, and how to dress for it.
All bodies, regardless of shape, are beautiful
and unique. But we often fail to recognize this
as fact. In this guide, we're going to teach you
how to love, respect, and take care of your
body.

Here, you'll learn about each type of figure,

how to properly define it, and which clothes
will enhance every centimeter of your
beautiful body. This journey through the body
will have you dressing like the pros in no time,
so let's get started.

There are so many different body types and

figures, but how do you decide what type you
are? We've compiled expert tips that will make
it easy for you.

02
Social Media Is
a Lie
Often, magazines and social media bombard
us with images of perfect women. They're
relentlessly photoshopped as "perfect",
making it hard to embrace body positivity and
self-love. In reality, they don't look like that-
no one does!

Body image issues, low self-esteem, and lack

of self-confidence affect both men and
women, but there are ways you can discover
body positivity and begin a journey of self-
love.

03
Take Time to
Appreciate Your
Body
It takes time to learn to love your body. But
learning to appreciate it is the first step.
Begin by identifying one or two things you're
proud of about your body. This includes
small things like freckles and toes!

Compliment yourself when you look in the

mirror, and you'll learn to love yourself for
even the small things - these are what make
us unique after all!

04
It’s Not a
Competition
One of the biggest reasons for being unhappy
with your body is comparing yourself to
others. There will always be someone more
beautiful, skinnier, or stylish than you- at least
on the outside. Take the time to love yourself
and your appearance instead. Self-confidence
is about accepting yourself, flaws, and all.

05
Be Yourself
Be it social media, TV, and music videos,
every day we're bombarded with a constant
stream of ideal body types. But the question
is, who decides what's ideal and what isn't?
The Hollywood elite, that's who. Maintaining
your natural body type is much healthier for
you in the long run. There's no need to give
up lattes, car rides, or eating out occasionally
to have better self-esteem!

We need to embrace our differences and

accept who we truly are! Don't obsess over
numbers like BMI, dress size, and weight. A
number on a scale isn't the only measure of
your health! To be body positive, you must be
happy with yourself no matter what anyone
else thinks- that is what self-esteem is.
Embrace your true self and love yourself first.
You need to accept yourself first if you want
others to accept you as you are too.

06
Embrace
Positivity
No matter where we go, we're exposed to
negative messages about body image that
creep into our thoughts and antagonize our
insecurities. It could be photoshopped images
of models on billboards, body-negative
people in your life, or even social media posts
that promote negative body behaviors.

So, get rid of as much negativity as you can.

Hide all those fad diet posts in your social
media feeds. Find positive people to be
around. Those who love themselves, and
encourage you to be yourself.

07
Finding Your Body
Shape
Choosing clothes that emphasize your best
features is easy when you know your body
type. All you need is a tape measure.

Measure your bust, waist, and hips. Only then

can you determine which body type you are,
based on your measurements. And don't
forget that all shapes and sizes are beautiful!

12
Most likely you won't fit into just one of the
body shape categories. More often than not,
we fit into one category but also lean towards
another. ‍The key is to know which body parts
make you fit into which category and then
work on playing them up or down accordingly.

In the next block we'll distinguish your body

shape(s) and discover what suits your unique
body.

13
Dressing
According to
Your Body Type
Below you'll find detailed guides on how to
dress each of the five body shapes. Consider
the characteristics of each body shape as you
read through the guides.

For example, let's say you have wide hips and

shoulders but a small bust. In this case,
depending on how you calculate your
measurements, you might fall into either the
pear or hourglass category.

But a feature you might be concerned about is

your small bust rather than your hips or
shoulders (since these balance each other
out). Pear-shaped bodies have smaller busts,
so we have tips for adding volume for anyone
who falls into that category.

Why Know Your
Body Shape?
When you know what clothes you'll feel
confident in, dressing for your shape is easy.
As you learn what silhouettes complement
your body type, shopping for clothes
becomes more accessible and more efficient.
With this in mind, it's time to find out which
capsule wardrobe suits you best!

30
Pear Body Type
Hips don't lie! Pear shapes' waist-to-hip ratio
turns the heads.

Not only do you have wider hips and thighs,

but pear body shapes also have smaller
shoulders and bust measurements. Long, slim
arms and narrow waistlines are typical
characteristics.

Dresses with full skirts or embellished

necklines divert the attention away from your
hips. Tops with fun shapes, open backs, long
sleeves, and belts accentuate the waist, back,
and neckline.

For women with this body shape, a-line and

maxi dresses are aesthetically pleasing,
especially hemlines that fall just below the
knee.

rectangle body shape is characterized by
fairly uniform measurements and a straight
waistline. With this shape, it’s possible to

The rectangle body type can wear most

statement-style bottoms that accentuate your
lower body. You can add volume to your look
with funky flares, flowy pleats, and colorful
prints.

When drawing attention to your upper body,

place your focus on your arms, shoulders, and
waist. Almost every dress is designed to fit a
rectangular frame. Try experimenting with
different sleeve types, cinched waistlines, and

30
Inverted
Triangle Body
Type
With this type, you’ll have amazing shoulders
that are wider than your waist and hips. And
your legs are likely beautiful and shapely.

When dressing for this type, you need to

balance out your broad shoulders. This way,
you’ll draw attention to your lower half.

Make your hips and legs stand out with ruffled

or pleated dresses that sit below the hips.
Doing this makes the upper body drawdown,
and the waistline is also more pronounced.

Choosing the right neckline for your dress (or

top) will make a huge difference too. This is
where deep and narrow necklines are key, but
off-the-shoulder styles should be avoided.

Hourglass Body
Type
A rare, hot beauty, this body type has curvy
proportions and a defined waist.

For the curved, the bust and hip

measurements are even, and the waistline is
significantly narrower than the waist. There
are so many different types of hourglass
figures existing today, including inverted
triangles with defined waists, where the bust
is larger than the hips.

Those with this body type need to accentuate

their curves and their waists. You’ll look great
in wrap dresses, jumpsuits, sheaths, and fit-
and-flare styles.
