The shawl can be made in any size.
With 5 balls of Catania it is approx. 115 x 49 cm / - a crochet hook size 3 - 3.5 mm / US D - E /
45 x 19 in. UK 11 - 9 or suitable for your yarn
- 3 pieces of waste yarn in contrast colour,
approx. 30 cm / 12 in long, for marking

Nordseestrand 2
Techniques
The shawl "Nordseestrand" is very easy to crochet. The stitch pattern consists of single crochet
stitches only that are worked into the back loops. The shape is created by four increases per row.
The shawl is made top down and can be finished at any size. You can make it in one colour, with
stripes or with gradient yarn, just as you like.
Increases
Use waste yarn to mark where to increase. Work two sc into the back loop of the same stitch
in front of the marking thread. Bring your marking thread to the front or back of your work and
pull threads to move them up, when needed.
Additionally work 2 sc into the last stitch.
Changing colours
When working with several colours, add the new colour at the turning chain.
Gauge
17 sts x 19 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in

Instructions
Ch 2
Row 1: 8 sc in second ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
Always work into the back loops of the sts!
Row 2: * 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, ch 1, turn. (12 sts)
Row 3: * 1 sc in next two sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, ch 1, turn. (16 sts)
Row 4: * 1 sc in next three sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, ch 1, turn. (20 sts)
Row 5: * 1 sc in next four sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, ch 1, turn. (24 sts)
Row 6: * 1 sc in next five sts, 2 sc in next st, place marking thread between sts, repeat from *, ch 1,
turn. (28 sts)
Pattern Repeat
* sc until marking thread, increase in st in front of thread, bring thread to the front (or back) of your
work, repeat from *, ch 1, turn.
Increase four sts in every row: three sts in the middle and one st at the end of the row.
Each of the four segments has the same number of sts.
Repeat until your shawl has the desired size.
Final Row
Work one row of slip stitches into the back loops.
Finishing
Sew in ends.
Do not block your shawl when washed. Just let it dry flat.
