The video discusses effective study techniques based on evidence from cognitive science research. It recommends 3 key steps: 1) Understanding topics through techniques like the Feynman technique and active recall testing, 2) Remembering information using spaced repetition and interleaved practice, and 3) Focusing using memory tools like mind maps. The most important step is understanding, which involves activities that force recall like explaining topics to others and making your own study questions. Rereading alone is less effective than combining active recall with spaced repetition over time.

How to Study for Exam – An Evidence-Based Masterclass
1. 3 Steps of Effective Studying
Understanding ( most important ) Remembering Focusing 2. Understanding A. Feynman Technique Understand in a way that you can explain it to a friend and 5 years old i.e. explain the topic in simple and your own language or main keywords. Explain the topic greatly. B. Science of Active Recall ( Test Yourself ) It is about taking things from brain rather than taking in the brain by rereading. The harder we try to get things out of our brain we get more strengthen memory by actively recalling the topics we have understood. Use questions for focus and recall. C. How to Learn New Content with Active Recall ( Test Yourself ) Read paragraph and chunks of topics and summarize in your own words but with book closed or without seeing so you are actively recalling it. You can make notes so you are actively engaged on the topics. Harder I try to recall stronger the memory gets. D. Taking Notes During Class Handwriting the notes are better than typing the notes. Handwriting makes us think more intensively. It makes you engaged. E. Taking Notes after Class. Build Active Recall Questions. Consolidate Understanding. Use multiple sources to understand the topics. F. Scoping the Subject Understand the topic in terms of wider picture. Go through subjects, topics, and subtopics. Get the bird eye view and also the Frog eye view. G. The Importance of Understanding Help to retain and write in our own words. H. Finding or Make syllabus for your own. 3. Spaced Repetition A. More hard the revision and the study the more you will retain information and expose yourself repeatedly to the study material so you will retain it for longer time. B. Make a study and revision diary or journal the will track and help you in the accountability of the study. 4. Interleaved Practice In a study session, intermix different types of study, For example make revision of old topic, study and understand new topic, different type of topic like mathematics solving writing, IQ and GK mix it up. Little bit of first topic, little bit of second topic, and little bit of third topic and back to first topic. 5. Rereading and Highlighting are not much effective technique but combine with Active Recall and Spaced Repetition. 6. Use and Google Sheet and Anki for review and active recall and spaced repetition. Analysis and practice more about it don’t get indulge in it. 7. Memory: Mind Map Main concept in the center and the branches of the concept go outward with sub-branches.
