Course Operations management is concerned with the management of resources for
Description efficient production and delivery of goods and services to meet customer
demands. The goal of operations management is to deliver high quality
products and services in a timely and cost-effective way to fulfill the
dynamically changing customer demands. An in-depth knowledge of
operations management is necessary for all managers as operations function is
strongly interrelated with the other functions of any organization. This course
provides understanding of how to gain competitive advantage through
operations. The course focuses on different types of processes and explains
how to measure key process parameters like capacity, lead time etc. It
demonstrates various managerial challenges posed in operational decision
making in diverse settings. The course covers aspects of process analysis,
forecasting, inventory management, project management, aggregate
planning among others.
The objectives of the course are as follows:
o To make students conversant with different operations management
situations and concepts.
o To equip students with analytical capabilities for addressing various
issues in the manufacturing and service operations and arriving at
appropriate solutions.
o To provide an understanding of operations discipline as a means of
gaining of competitive advantage for manufacturing and service
organizations.
