The expression pop music (from English pop music, contraction of popular music)
refers to a combination of different musical genres [highly popular within a
society. This type of music is made to be highly commercialized. Many cite the
beginnings of this genre during the 1950s.

Tango is a musical genre and dance from the River Plate, popular in the urban areas
of Argentina and Uruguay. Its musical form is binary (theme and chorus) and has a
time signature of two by four.

Salsa music is a mix of African and Caribbean sounds. These are sounds like son,
mambo, bomba, and plena. Salsa is a term that describes various rhythmic and
instrumental styles that originated not only in Puerto Rico, but also in Cuba, the
Dominican Republic, and yes, the United States.

Cumbia is a dance from Colombia, a South American country, which originated on the
Caribbean Coast of these lands in colonial times. This dance is the fusion of three
cultures; the African, the indigenous and the Spanish that were combined to become
the most representative choreographic and musical expression

Musical style born in the 1960s as a derivative of rock and roll and characterized
by the use of complex melodies and rhythms, with fairly fixed instrumentation
(basically electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard and drums) and with an
energetic rhythm underlined by the power of the bass and the drums, all of which is
often linked to an anti-authoritarian and provocative attitude; it has developed
many variants and has given way to new styles, such as pop, punk or heavy.

Reggaetón is a style of urban and Latin dance music that mixes reggae with hip hop
with lyrics in Spanish mixed with Latin rhythms such as bomba and salsa. Reggaeton
became popular in the '90s when it began to be marketed massively with Puerto Rican
artists.

El jazz es un género musical que tiene origen por melodías afroamericanas y mezclas
de otros ritmos, y todo comenzó a finales del siglo XIX en los Estados Unidos. El
término Jazz se hizo público en un artículo publicado en el "Boletín de San
Francisco", en 1913.

La música clásica se refiere a las composiciones musicales que abarcan el período


llamado clasicismo musical ubicado entre los años 1750 y 1820.

El funk es un género musical que nació entre mediados y finales de los años 1960,
cuando músicos principalmente afroamericanos fusionaron soul, jazz, ritmos latinos
(mambo, por ejemplo) y R&B dando lugar a una nueva forma musical rítmica y
bailable.

El término musical reggae apareció impreso por primera vez en el éxito de los Toots
& The Maytals de 1968 titulado Do the Reggae. Como muchos otros ritmos africanos,
el reggae se caracteriza por un fuerte ritmo sincopado conocido como el latido de
corazón, popularizado mundialmente por el rey del reggae, Bob Marley.
