I’ve gone through two of these cameras and although it might not be the problem, there’s a small
plastic cog inside this model that erodes over time. Doomed for failure

I just went through two DOA 514XL-S's and they both had the same problem with that same gear.
Complete mush. I wonder if there's a way to find out the specifications of it and maybe 3D print a
replacement?

Sometimes the old grease will seize the motor, try putting it in a warm spot (like a sunny window or a
shelf over a radiator, but NOT over a heater vent) and try running the motor when it’s warmed up. If it
does work you’ll still need to get the camera serviced, but at least it’s not due to a dead motor

Thanks! If doesn’t work after that , should it just be used for decoration? I’m super upset because I
just bought new super 8 films and was just getting started on filming

OK before I type this -- I know this is probably something you already did. But, it is always worth
checking. (I'm commenting here because my Canon movie cameras were some of the best cameras I
ever owned. Made superb pictures -- loved those Canons).
Please purchase some "name brand" and very in-date batteries. Get out the VOM (volt ohm meter) and
trace the contacts/circuit, etc. It is possible (although slim) that the something is preventing the motor
from getting full voltage when the cartridge is inserted. Wires, contacts, etc. Just a thought.
