Activity: Job Application Letter
In pairs, work together to think of at least one way that you could prove to someone, who has
never met you, how well you do your job.
How can you prove that you are developing your personal skills?
List your ideas below…….
We can divide evidence into four types:
• Facts
• Learning by doing
• Personal development
• Personal achievements and triumphs
Facts
• Courses that you have been on
• Your induction to the post (who carried it out?....is there a written record?)
• Health and safety training…do you have a certificate?
• Qualifications that you already have or are working on….what evidence do you have?
• Any reports that you have completed, or have been written about you
• Any adverse incidents you have been involved in
• Witness statements
Learning by doing
• New machinery that you have learnt to operate
• New routines that you have fitted into
• Have you learnt to deliver something in a different way?
• Are there some new rules that you have had to get used to?
• Is there new legislation that you have had to learn about in order to do your job properly?
Personal development
• Is there anything that you have been doing in your personal life to develop your skills?
• Helped at your child's school?
• Taken part in a local interest group or club?
• Taken up a hobby?
Personal achievements and triumphs
Your PDR will be an ideal opportunity to talk about those things that you are proud of……
…an aspect of your work (or your personal development outside the job) where you know
thatyou have ‘gone the extra mile’ and are proud of your achievements.

Dear Liza Wideman:
I am writing to express my interest in securing an Associate position at Great Strategy
Consulting Firm. I am a Master of Liberal Arts degree candidate at Harvard Extension
School, specializing in Information Technology. I come from a solid technical
background with a strong interest in business and a passion towards strategy. My area
of focus and interest varies from quantitative analysis to project management. I have
maintained a 3.95 GPA through a well-balanced program of study, which is not only
very analytical and technical by nature but also helps to build leadership and team
building qualities. I am extremely impressed with Great Strategy’s approach to
strategy consulting, especially within the Business Development and Innovation
practice areas. I believe my academic background, business knowledge and industry
experiences have provided me with the credentials needed to thrive as an Associate.
Prior to Harvard, I worked as a technology professional, primarily resolving strategic
issues related to technology process improvement. I gained solid research, analytical
and problem solving skills while working in Fortune 500 companies. My background
in generating innovative ideas and strategies to improve processes has provided me
with a deeper understanding of multifaceted problems that companies encounter in
their daily operations. Moreover, because of my work experiences, I fully understand
how important it is to have great team dynamics in today’s multi-disciplinary business
environment.
To date, my experience as an IT professional has been extremely rewarding and
productive. However, it is through strategy consulting that I can use my analytical
aptitude and creative problem solving skills to their fullest. I strongly believe that
consulting is a discipline that will force me to view problems not only from the
client’s standpoint but also from a marketplace, best practices and “think out of the
box” point of views.
I would appreciate the opportunity to interview with Great Strategy Consulting Firm
for the Associate position. Please find enclosed my resume for your review. I can be
reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at (617) 555-3456.
I enthusiastically look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Subject: Approval for Setting up a Multimedia House
Mr Zia Shakir,
With Paramount reverence, I want to bring this into your kind notice that there has been a
massive demand from universities and colleges in the South Delhi region to come up with a
multimedia organisation that could cater for their internship needs.
You are aware of the fact that it is a time of media convergence and people are showing their
prime interest in choosing multimedia as their prime source of information. And it is a good fact
that multimedia news discrimination has overshadowed the traditional way of information
dissemination. I believe we will take all the elements of multimedia into consideration. A fully-
fledged animation branch will add feathers to our cap. We should take advantage of this
emerging trend and set up a fully-fledged organisation in South Delhi.
Thanking You in Anticipation
Sincerely,

New York
Respected Sir/ Ma’am,
I am writing this letter to bring to your notice the rising crime rate in the suburbs of New York
City and I would be very grateful if you could highlight the same in your esteemed newspaper to
bring the attention of the government and police towards the same.
In the span of last six months, the rate of crime in the New York suburbs has shot up beyond
belief. There is a gang of college dropouts who are supposed to be committing small crimes in
the area like pickpocketing and thefts but if they are not stopped at the earliest, the problem can
take a very serious shape.
It is quite surprising that the authorities are not taking enough pains to catch this gang despite so
many complaints about them. Not much of these crimes get reported as they are small crimes and
the residents of this area are asked to keep up with their patience levels. Everyone has been very
patient for all these months but this is certainly not the solution. Everyone wants that the gang
should get arrested and these thefts should come to an end.
I am hopeful that if you are going to cover this social issue in your newspaper then more and
more people around the city will become aware of it and not only this, the coverage is also going
to get the attention of the government and the police department.
I strongly feel that this issue must be raised and the gang should be put behind the bars so that
the residents can stay peacefully without having to worry about the safety and security of their
homes and offices.
Thanking in anticipation.
Sincerely,

Apology Letter
To

Dear companion,
I am writing this apology letter to you for hurting you last weekend. Words cannot
express how deeply ashamed I am for my behavior. For some reason, I was lost those
days and had almost gone astray, which led me to betray and hurt you. Now when I
think of it, I cannot associate myself with that estranged soul I was when I even thought
of knowingly betraying you.
I know, for me, getting your forgiveness is no less than a luxury now. What I did to
you, no friend should ever do. We promised to be together through thick and thin, and I
am incredibly sorry for breaking that promise and hurting you so bad.
I am not even in a position to beg you to stay, for you have every right to discard me
from your life. But, I am still hoping you would give me a chance to mold myself into a
better person, a better friend to you, most importantly. But my betrayal has, without that
shadow of a doubt, has caused you to lose all the trust you had me before. I am solely
at fault for this unsettling situation between us. And I take full responsibility for my
actions.
Please forgive me, my friend. I am desperately trying to learn from my mistakes and be
a trustworthy friend to you.
Love,
