Our lesson is all about “Action word or verb.

Action word is usually called as verb.

Verb is a word that expresses an action, emotion,

idea or a state of being.

Here are some examples of action word or verb:

run crawl
dance read
jump write
walk drink
talk laugh
(The pupils will read the examples)
These words can usually be used in a sentence.

For example: 1. The horse runs fast.

10. The children laugh at their teacher’s joke.

Did you know that verb has three main tenses?

These are the:

 Past Tense.
 Present Tense
 Future Tense

For your better understanding to our lesson, let’s

discuss it one by one.

First is past tense;

Past tense expresses the idea that action happened

in the past. Sometimes, there is no specific time
mentioned.

➢ Add d or ed to form past tense of regular verbs.

Example:

Example: walk-walked, care-cared, remember-

remembered

 We walked along the beach last year.

 The man cared for his sick friend last week.
 She remembered her promise a while ago.
We walked along the beach last year.
Can you please read the example number 1 pupil 3?

As you can see, “walk” will add -ed, which becomes

walked, so that it becomes past tense.
The man cared for his sick friend last week.
Please read the example number 2. Yes pupil 4?

Care will add -d becomes past tense.

She remembered her promise a while ago.
Please read the last example pupil 5?

In this example “remember” will also add -ed and it

becomes past tense.

Always remember that a verb that will add ed or d is

called past tense. Can you give an example of a
sentence that is formed in the past tense? Yes pupil I washed the dishes.
6?

Very good! Wash will add -ed becomes washed, this

is a past tense. Let’s give her a very good clap. (The pupils will give her a very good clap)

Let’s move on to present tense

Present tense is used for anything which is
happening at the current moment of time or
something which happens regularly.
If the subject is singular noun or pronoun, add –s to
most verbs

Example:
walk-walks, care-cares, remember-remembers

❖ The boy walks now.

walks
Can you tell me what is the present tense of this
sentence?

Very good! Walk will become present tense when we

add -s. cares
❖ Ana cares for her sick sister.

What is the present tense in this sentence?

Very good! When we add -s in care we will form the
word cares and that is also called present tense.

❖ He remembers his favorite toy.

Please read the last example and tell me what is the He remembers his favorite toy. (remembers)
present tense in a sentence.

Very good! Let’s go back to our example earlier. Can

you tell me where is the example of the present in the example number 8
tense here in these sentences?
The teacher writes the activity on the board.
Very good! Please read.
yes ma’am
Do you understand now what is present tense?

Let’s move on to future tense.

Future tense expresses an action that talk about

something that will happen or will be true in the
future. Use the base form of the verb after using the
special verb will.
Use the special verb will to write about the future.
Time markers are used to denote future actions:
tomorrow, next week, later, next month, tonight,
next year.

Example:
 My brother will walk for work tomorrow. will walk
Can you guess what is future tense in this sentence?

Very good! When we add the word will, the word will
change to will walk and this is called future
tense.

 Your best friend will care for you tonight. will care
How about the example number 2?
Very good!

 The waiter will remember your order later.

For the last one, what do you think the future tense will remember
used?

yes ma’am
Very good! Do you understand our lesson for today?

If you really understand, let me ask you some

question.

D. Generalization

Again class, what is verb? Verb is a word that expresses an action, emotion,
idea or a state of being.

Very good! Now, who can give me an example of climb

verb? Yes pupil 7?

Very good! Who can tell me what is the past tense of climbed
this word? Yes pupil 8?
