This free crochet pattern is for a Christmas gnome ornament. The materials needed include yarn in red, grey, white and beige colors as well as a crochet hook. The body of the gnome is made in rounds starting with the bottom and decreasing upwards. Separate parts are made for the nose and beard which are sewn onto the body along with stuffing. The finished gnome measures about 9cm/3.5 inches tall.

Materials:
#1 Hobbii Rainbow Deluxe 8/4 in Red, Grey, White and Beige.
2 mm crochet hook
Stitch marker
Darning needle
Polyester filling
A pair of scissors

Terms:
Mr – Magic ring
Ch – Chain
Sc – Single crochet
Dc – Double crochet
Tr – Triple crochet
Inc – Increase
Dec – Decrease (I use invisible decrease in my work, read pattern notes)
BLO – Back loop only

Pattern notes:
This pattern is worked in rounds if nothing else is said.
This pattern is worked with yarn under sc – Insert your hook under the top two loops,
yarn under, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops. This creates an “x”
stitch.
I use invisible decrease in my work, see instructions under.

1. Insert your hook in the FLO of the next 2 stitches.


2. Yarn over and pull through 2 of the 3 loops on your hook.
3. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.

Start with grey yarn.
Stuff as you go.

Cut a round piece of cardboard and insert in the bottom of your gnome.

Round 6: Flatten the beard and through both sides make 2 sc, skip one st, [5 dc] in the
same st, skip one st, 1 sc, skip one st, [2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc] in the next st, skip one st, 1 sc, skip
one st, [5 dc] in the next st, skip one st, 2 sc. Cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing
later.

Hat edge:
With red yarn.
Round 1: Place your hook in the FLO on the hat, with the tip of the hat pointing at you. Pull
up a loop and ch 2. 1 dc in the same st, place 2 dc in the remaining loops around the head.
Sl st in the second ch. (80)
Round 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in each st around, sl st in the second ch. (80)
Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Assembly:
Sew on the nose on the beard Stuff lightly before closing the hole.
Place the beard 2 grey lines under the hat edge and sew it on.
