The basic operational procedures for this unit, such as start-up, shut-down, patient registration, and
parameter settings, are performed by the REGIUS console.
Before using the unit, fully familiarize yourself with the contents of this operation manual as well as
the operation manual for the REGIUS console.
Also, please take note that safety precautions regarding handling of and operational procedures
for the product are stated in this manual. The manual should be kept in a safe place so it may be
referred to any time in the future.
* If the pages of the operation manual are smudgy and illegible, replace the operation
manual with a new one. (There is a fee for this service.)
The "Erase" lamp will illuminate (Orange) and the message "ERASE MODE 1"
together with the status bar "■■■ . . . QUICK" will appear on the message display
window, and the unit will switch to the high-speed erase mode.

To avoid the risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to a supply mains

Do not introduce foreign objects such as water or other liquids, pins or clips into the unit:
fire, electrocution or damage may result. In the event of accidental introduction of such foreign
objects or substances into the unit, the power should be switched off immediately and the power
plug disconnected from the power outlet.
No attempts should be made to disassemble the unit. Then contact Konica Minolta technical
representatives.

1.4.2 Cautions Relating to the Power Supply and the Power Cable
WARNING
• The following points should be strictly observed in order to avoid the risk of
electrocution or fire.
Make sure that the unit is not exposed to water or other liquids. Make sure also that clips, pins
or other foreign objects are not accidentally introduced into the main unit: this could lead to
electrocution or fire.
• Always use the power cable provided with the unit.
• Do not use the supplied power cable for other devices as the cable is for this device
only.
• Always use a recommended power outlet as the power supply.
• Be careful to ensure that no dirt or dust accumulates on the power plug or power plug
pins.
• In the event that the power plug or power cable becomes hot, or if the plug is loose
when connected to the power outlet, usage should be discontinued immediately and

• Do not use any power outlet other than the type specified.
Always use a wall outlet meeting the specified voltage and power supply requirements. Usage
of power outlets other than the type specified could result in fire or electrical leak. Additionally,
do not use the unit in a location where an extension cable will be necessary.
• Do not use cables other than the power cable supplied with the unit.
Supply of current in excess of the ratings to the power cable could produce the risk of fire.
Additionally, in order to avoid the risk of electrocution or fire due to damage to the power cable,
the following cautions should be strictly observed:
• Do not tug on the power cable.
• Do not twist the power cable.
• Do not bundle power cables.
• Do not fix the power cable in place using, for example, a stapler.
• Do not allow the power cable to become trapped between two objects.
• Do not place objects on the power cable.
• Do not carry out modifications, repairs or other processes on the power cable.
• Do not use a damaged power cable.
A damaged power cable should be immediately replaced by a power cable of identical standard.

• The power cable should not be used near any heat generating devices.
• When the unit is to be left unoperated for extended periods of time, the power plug

Safety Precautions
• Cautions Relating to Installation of the Unit
Do not release the adjuster foot or stopper of the unit. The main unit can move, causing bodily
injury and damage to the main unit or surrounding property.
• Do not install the unit in any location other than the one specified.
The unit should not be set up or installed in any of the locations detailed below, or in any
location not specified in this manual. There is a possibility of becoming a cause of a fire.
• Locations where the unit will be exposed to excessive amounts of dust.
• Locations where the unit will be exposed to direct sunlight.
• Locations, such as near a hot water outlet, where the unit will be exposed to exces-
sive levels of humidity.
• Locations that are not level.
• Locations with poor air circulation, or where sufficient ventilation cannot be ensured.
• Locations where the unit will be exposed to soot or steam.
• Locations where the unit will be exposed to extreme contrasts between light and
darkness.
• Locations where the unit will be exposed to heat, such as near a heater.

CAUTION
• Be careful to avoid fingers or hair being pulled into the unit.
Keep hands and hair away from the air intake and vents during operation of the unit. Hands can
become caught and hair can become wound in the air intake and vents, causing injury.
• Do not place any objects on top of the unit except the REGUIS console operation unit,
keyboard, and mouse.
There is a risk of any objects placed on top of the unit toppling and causing damage.
• Do not push the unit.
The unit can fall over, causing injury or damage to the unit.
• Do not use radio communication devices e.g. mobile phones or pocket pagers in the
vicinity of the unit.
Use of radio communication devices near the unit can cause errors in operation due to
electromagnetic wave interference: such devices should be switched off in the vicinity of the unit.
• Devices which generate electromagnetic waves, such as microwave therapy equipment,
also may cause errors in operation of the unit or in images the unit produces.

• Do not use the unit with the air intake and vents blocked.
Do not use the unit with the air intake and vents blocked or covers in place. Heat may
accumulate inside the unit, which could cause damage to the unit.
• Do not put foreign objects in the cassette insertion and ejection slot.
Do not drop anything other than cassettes insertion and ejection slot.
• Do not insert any foreign object into the interlock switch part. Doing so may disable the
safety device.
There are risks of hands being caught, electrocution, and injuries due to leakage of laser beam.
• Use a dedicated hub when connecting the unit to the REGIUS console/JM.
When a facility LAN connection is established between the above two devices, images may not
be sent or the image may become deteriorated.
• Be careful when the front door is open.
If the laser and motor do not stop when the front door is opened, stop operation and turn off the breaker.

(1) EMC Statement - The unit has been tested and found to comply with the limits for medical
devices to the IEC 60601-1-2:2007.
These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a typical
medical installation. The unit generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not

installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to other
devices in the vicinity. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular
installation.
If the unit does cause harmful interference to other devices, which can be determined by turning the
equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the
following measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving device.
- Increase the separation between the equipment
- Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the other device(s) are
connected.
- Consult the manufacturer or field service technician for help.
(2) EMC statement - Take precautions against the unit especially regarding EMC.
Install and put into service according to the EMC information provided in the manual.
(3) EMC Statement - Do not use mobile phones or pocket pagers in the vicinity of the unit.
Use of mobile phones or pocket pagers near the unit can cause errors in operation due to
electromagnetic wave interference: such devices should off in the vicinity of the unit.
(5) EMC Statement - The use of accessories, transducers and cables other than those specified,
with the exception of transducers and cables sold by KONICA MINOLTA MEDICAL & GLAPHIC,
INC. as for internal components, may result in increased emissions or decreased immunity of
the unit.
(6) EMC Statement - Do not use adjacent to or stacked with other equipment.
If adjacent or stacked use is necessary, confirm normal operation in the configuration in which the unit
will be used.

Cautions relating to the fluorescent medium of the REGIUS Plate.
When the REGIUS Plate is damaged causing the fluorescent substance to be exposed to the

open air, the following cautions should be noted.
• If your eyes become contaminated, avoid rubbing; quickly rinse your eyes with water.
Rubbing your eyes may cause injury.
• If the fluorescent medium is swallowed or comes in contact with your eyes, a doctor
should be consulted after carrying out the emergency measures.
• If the medium comes into contact with the skin, wash the affected area thoroughly with
water.
• Use and store in a location inaccessible to children.

• To prevent possible injury, be careful not to drop the cassette during usage. Dropping
the cassette on the foot may cause injury.
• Be careful not to pinch your fingers when opening/closing the back plate.
• Because the magnet is used for the back plate of the read-only cassette, do not bring the read-
only cassette close to a person wearing a pacemaker or to other electronic devices.
• Cassettes should not be used in a location where they may be exposed to high tempera-
tures, high levels of humidity, direct sunlight or radiation.
• Cassettes should be used under the conditions: 10-30°C, 80%RH or less.
• Use only those exposure-only cassettes, read-only cassettes and REGIUS Plates that are
specified by Konica Minolta and do not use them for other purpose than specified.
• To prevent possible injury, make sure that the exposure-only cassette lid is locked when
it is carried to another location.
• Loading of the exposed REGIUS Plate in the read-only cassette should always be carried
out in a darkroom. Use a blue safelight when necessary. Loading the exposed REGIUS
Plate under daylight leads to deterioration of the image recorded on the REGIUS Plate.
• Make sure that the lock is engaged when inserting the read-only cassette into the unit.
• Be careful to ensure that the iron foil on the back panel does not become soiled. Also, do
not affix any labels to the back panel. If it is necessary to affix a label, the label should
not be affixed to the iron foil portion. Be sure to peel it off before inserting the cassette
into the reader.
• Peeling or curling of the sheet laminated on the cassette’s back plate (hereinafter re-
ferred to as the "back plate") may lead to injury at the edge of the sheet depending on
handling. If peeling or curling of the sheet is observed, immediately stop using the cas-
sette and contact Konica Minolta technical representatives for repair.
• Be careful that no foreign objects such as liquid (water, etc.), pins or clips fall into the cas-
sette.
• Dropping, bending or applying a shock to the cassette or the REGIUS Plate may lead to
deformation or breakage. Always handle them with care.
• Do not leave the REGIUS Plate under a the fluorescent lamp or sunlight for an extended
period of time.
• Be careful not to damage or soil the fluorescent surface of the REGIUS Plate or inner
parts of the exposure-only cassette.
• Never attempt to disassemble, repair or modify the cassette. This may cause deterioration
of the image quality as well as problems in examination using the exposure-only cassette.
Contact Konica Minolta technical representatives when a repair should be required.
• Anhydrous ethanol is a chemical agent. Be sure to comply with safety regulations of the
chemical manufacturer.
• The surface of cassette must be cleaned after each patient examination according to the
instruction below.
Clean the surface first using a soft dry cloth.
Disinfect the surface with soft cloth soaked anhydrous ethanol as cleaning agent which
is available in the market.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agent, mechanical cleaning methods or cleaning
equipment.
• Lead is used in the inner surface of the exposure-only cassette. Due care should be tak-
en when it is handled.

3.1.1 Power ON
The following describes how to turn on the unit.
Hint
• The unit is started up and shut down using the REGIUS console that
controls the unit.
• The main power supply should always be left on. If turned off, the main
power supply should be switched back on, by following the procedure
below.
Hint
• JM is the application software for managing the network between this
unit and the REGIUS console. There are two types of JM: one is a built-in
type for the REGIUS console, the other is external. Contact your system
administrator to ensure which of the two is used.

Except for the case of emergency stop, turning OFF of the main
power supply should be implemented only after terminating the
operation by pressing the "Operation" switch. Otherwise, it may
lead to damage to the device, generating risk that the device may
not start up in the normal way.
Hint
• The power of the unit does not need to be turned OFF at the end of the
day. When the connected REGIUS console is shut down, the system
goes to the sleep mode automatically.
• In the following cases, turn OFF the power supply circuit breaker after
shutting down using the "Operation" switch.
• Suspended use of the device for an extended period
• Unplugging of the power cable from the outlet (for movement of the
device, etc.)
• For service purpose (maintenance service, etc.)

While the "Operation" switch is pushed, "POWER OFF AFT 5" appears on the

message display window, then the counter starts counting down from five to one.
Hint
• If the "Operation" switch is released before "POWER OFF IN
PROCESS" is displayed, the countdown is canceled, and the message
"READY" appears on the message display window.
The message "POWER OFF IN PROCESS" and the status bar "■ ■ ■ . . ."
indicating the stop operation appear on the message display window.
The "Operation" lamp blinks repeatedly.
When the shut down operation is completed, the message display window
extinguishes.

The "Operation" lamp indicates whether the unit is in sleep mode or the
power is turned OFF.

1 Before turning on the power, make sure that the unit, REGIUS console
and JM are correctly connected, that the unit is in sleep mode, and
that the power switch of the JM is turned ON.
3 Turn ON the power switch on the front of the REGIUS console control unit (PC).
The REGIUS console start-up message and the operating system start-up
message appear on the REGIUS console operation unit (LCD monitor). After a
while, the system start-up screen appears.
An initialization of the system is performed while the system start-up screen is
displayed.
When initialization is completed, the initial screen appears on the REGIUS
console operation unit (LCD monitor), and the system is ready for use.
The unit exits from sleep mode.

When loading the REGIUS Plate, set the concave edge first, then other edges.
When setting the back plates on the exposure-only cassette, make sure
that orientation of all cassettes are the same ([Plate Release] buttons
are facing the same direction.)
Loading of the REGIUS Plate in the read-only cassette should always be
carried out in a darkroom.
1 Erase the images on the REGIUS Plate of the read-only cassette before
exposure.
2 Pull the two levers (latches) on the exposure-only cassette to open the
lid of the cassette.

Handling the Cassette

8 After the exposure is completed, open the lid of the exposure-only cassette
in a darkroom, position the back plate of the read-only cassette with the
register marks aligned and in the direction the REGIUS Plate was loaded,
and remove the REGIUS Plate by allowing the plate to stick to the magnet
of the back plate.
Before setting the back plate, make sure the plate is fit inside the inner frame of
the cassette. If it does not fit properly, it may cause cassette transport error.
*If there are three plates, set two plates in both sides first (the middle plate cannot be
stuck first).
9 Couple the front and back plates of the read-only cassette, and make
sure the lock is engaged.
10 Insert the read-only cassette into the unit to read the image data.

2 Insert the cassette in a way the bar code is positioned to the left front of
the cassette.
The cassette will be transported into the unit automatically, and then the bar code
will be read.
The READY lamp is extinguished while the cassette is being fed into the unit.
Once the cassette is fully transported into the unit, the READY lamp will again
illuminate. At this point, another cassette (+1 stack feature) can be inserted into
the cassette insertion slot.

Cassette stacker
Hint
• Cassettes ejected to the cassette stacker may be used for X-ray
exposure again.
• The maximum capacity of the cassette stacker is four cassettes.
Once the maximum capacity has been reached, the message "BUSY
REMOVE CST FROM EXIT" will appear on the message display
window. (After four cassettes have been loaded, a mechanism
preventing the insertion of additional cassettes activates.)
• After the cassette is read and ejected, the unit will automatically
transport the next cassette into the unit if a cassette has been previously
stacked (+1 stack feature) in the cassette insertion slot.
There are two erase modes on the unit: ERASE MODE 1 (high-speed erase mode) and ERASE
MODE 2 (low-speed erase mode). In the ERASE MODE 2, the erasing lamp (halogen lamp) is ap-
plied to the REGIUS Plate for a longer time, compared to that for the ERASE MODE 1. Select the
appropriate mode according to the purpose.

ERASE MODE 2 To erase an image data from an improper X-ray exposure.

• After erasing is completed in high-speed erase mode, the number
of bars in the status bar display on the message display window
decreases. When the number of bars reaches zero, "READY" appears
on the message display window, and the cassette is ready for reading.
• Cassettes erased completely may be used for X-ray exposure again.

1 Operating ERROR [XXXXX] Cassette jam has occurred. Resolve by following the
Initializing REMOVE REMAINING CST procedure detailed in "Handling Cassette Jams".
2 Operating ERROR [04906] BAD CST The REGIUS Plate in the cassette may not be firmly ad-

image data may be damaged. Resolve by following the pro-
cedure detailed in "Handling Cassette Jams".
3 Operating Error [04908] Only the front panel is ejected; the back panel is left in the

4 Operating ERROR [XXXXX] 1. Open and close the front door. Most of errors can be

2. If the above procedure (1.) fails to restore the unit:
Push the "Operation" switch to turn OFF and push it
again to restart the unit.
3. If the above procedure (2.) fails to restore the unit:
Turn OFF/ON the power supply circuit breaker, and
then push the "Operation" switch to restart the unit.
6 Operating NETWORK ERROR [24XXX] When this error occurs, the IP addresses of this unit
Initializing RECONNECTING TO JM (SRC) and the REGIUS console (DST) are displayed
DST : XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX on the message display window. In this case, check
SRC : XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX and perform the following.
1. Check that the Ethernet cable is connected between
the unit and the JM (or the REGIUS console if the
JM is built in). If it is disconnected, the unit will
resume operation automatically when the Ethernet
cable is connected.
2. Check that the JM is operating and that the Ethernet
cable is connected to that JM.
a) If the JM is not operating, check that the Ethernet
cable is connected to that JM, and then start the
JM. This will start the unit automatically. Next,
restart the REGUIS console.
b) If the Ethernet cable is not connected to the JM,
connect the Ethernet cable. If the JM is operating,
this will start the unit automatically. Next, restart
the REGUIS console.

8 INCORRECT READ CND Invalid exam tag is registered for the cassette inserted.
PRESS EJECT Register a correct exam tag, and reinsert the cassette.
9 Processing BUSY The ejection slot shutter is open. Resolve the cause

unless the handle is returned to its correct position.

If a foreign object is dropped on the shutter, turn OFF the power of the unit and remove it by hand.
Do not put your hands into the cassette insertion slot when the
power of the unit is on.
If it is difficult to retrieve the object dropped inside the cassette
insertion slot or a foreign object has entered inside the unit,
stop operation of the unit and contact Konica Minolta technical
representatives.
Troubleshooting
When the surface of REGIUS Plate is damaged seriously:
When the protective film covering the fluorescent surface of the REGIUS Plate is damaged or
torn, immediately stop using the plate and replace it with a new one.
