Department of Mathematics
STAT 319 Syllabus, Term 232 (2023-2024)
Coordinator: Dr. Jimoh Olawale Ajadi ([email protected])
Course Code and Title: STAT319 Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists
Course Credit Hours: 3-1-3
Check Blackboard regularly for announcements.

Objectives:

This Lab of STAT 319 is designed to help the students in the following ways:

1. To easily understand and appreciate the practicability of the concepts taught in the STAT
319 curriculum.
2. To develop their ability to properly analyze and solve probability and statistics problems,
and reasonably interpret their results.
3. To learn how to use R in solving a wide range of statistical problems in real world, since
statistics has a lot of application in almost all the fields of life.

Assessment
Assessment for this Lab will be based on lab work, participation, attendance, and
three lab tests, as following:

Activity Marks
Lab Tests 1 20
Lab Tests 2 20
Lab Tests 3 20
Total 60
The average total grade of the lab of each section shall be in the interval 15% (60 points)
[42, 45], i.e., [70%, 75%] of 60 points.

Missing each lab will lose 0.5 mark. After missing 5 labs student will get 0 out of 20
marks.

• Details and guidelines for Tests:

✓ We will use R by logging in to our labs in building 5.
✓ All tests will be conducted using the blackboard.
✓ You will be able to see it in the "Assessments / Tests" section.
✓ All tests dates are mentioned in the syllabus above, this is students’ responsibility to
remember the test dates.
✓ There will be no makeup test at all.
✓ We expect you to abide by all ethical rules and work individually.
