Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the new school year. We trust that you have had a relaxing and blessed
Christmas and are having a wonderful break. A special welcome to our new families joining
us, and a warm welcome back to our returning families. Below, you will find essential
information for the first few days of school.

Years 7, 11 & 12 First Day: Tuesday 29th January

Fist Day Routine:

 The first School Day for years 7, 11 and 12 is Tuesday 30th January 2024.
 As Tuesday is a Sports Day, students are required to wear their Sports Uniform.

found HERE.
Year 7:

New Incoming Students Years 8, 9 and 10:

 All new incoming students in Years 8, 9 and 10 are to attend on Tuesday 30th January 2024,
for 2 hours, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. This will be an important session for new students to
familiarise themselves with the school and set up their BYOD devices, ready for their first
day on Wednesday. Please refer to an email sent last year regarding preparing for BYOD
onboarding.
 Students are to assemble outside the Enrolments Office at 9:00 am and be collected at 11:00
am in front of the Enrolment Office.
 All students are required to wear school uniforms.

independently to meet their Parent/Carer in the carpark.
 Students catching a bus will head to the bus bay.
 We aim to make afternoon dismissal as efficient as possible and request that parents arrive
promptly at 3:10 pm. Parents are not allowed to enter the school grounds.

Uniform

Parents are reminded that standards and expectations regarding behaviour and uniforms are
important aspects of school life. It is our desire that students in our community have a high standard
of personal presentation by wearing their uniform well. A copy of the Uniform guidelines can be
found on the school’s website or downloaded HERE. Please pay particular attention to the points
below:

 Students are to wear their Summer School Uniform including fully enclosed black lace-up,
heeled leather shoes (not casual sports shoes).
 Jewellery is restricted to wrist watches (not smart watches) and 1 small plain gold, silver or
small gemstone stud or sleeper per ear (Girls only). Students wearing jewellery will be
required to remove the jewellery immediately and this may be held at Student Reception,
labelled with their name, to be collected at the end of the school day.
 If your child has had additional earrings or piercings during the holidays, please be advised
that these must be removed before school commences. Students are not permitted to wear
clear earrings or band-aids over piercings; they must not be worn to school.
 For students wearing makeup (outside of school guidelines), a makeup remover will be
provided with suitable equipment to remove the makeup. Nail polish remover will also be
provided to remove all nail polish.
 Extension and false eyelashes are not permitted and will need to be removed prior to
returning to the school as they are not part of the school uniform.
 False/Acrylic nails will also need to be removed prior to returning to the school as they are
not part of the school uniform.
 Hair styles must be tidy and respectable, of natural colour and not attract undue attention
(e.g., no mullet style haircuts). Students will be required to have their hair cut and/or hair
colour returned to a natural colour prior to being permitted to return to the school on the
next day.
 All girls must ensure that the length of their skirt is on or below the knee.
 The WCCS school bag is compulsory for all students.
 Remember to label your child’s clothing so that if it is lost, we can assist in returning the
item to the student.

William Carey respects the genuine practice of others’ faith and wishes to work with families. If you,
as a family, are unable to meet the uniform code with good integrity, and it is not possible to identify
a suitable alternative regarding a specific item, families can write an appeal for a specific variation to
the uniform code. Please address these to the Principal, Mr McMullen.
The Uniform shop is open before school starts back:

 Monday 22nd January 8:00 am - 4:45 pm

 Tuesday 23rd January 8:00 am - 3:45 pm
 Wednesday 24th January 8:00 am - 3:45 pm
 Thursday 25th January 8:00 am - 3:45 pm
 Friday 26th January CLOSED (Public holiday)
 Monday 29th January 8:00 am - 4:45 pm

WCCS BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Students will be required to bring their device on their first day. Assistance will be provided to
students to connect to the school network.

Information regarding the ‘BYOD Program’ can be accessed on the School website or an electronic
version can be downloaded HERE.

If you have purchased a new laptop over the break, you can find detailed instructions to set up the
device at the ICT help site.
In order to connect your device to WCCS Wi-Fi, you will first need to provision it by visiting
https://byod.willcarey.nsw.edu.au/ from the device. This should be done at home before coming to
school. Once provisioned, you can connect your device to the WCCS wireless network.
Reminder for parents: To assist in installing software/Wi-Fi, please remove admin settings on the
computer for the first week.

Communications

Family Portal:

The School Family Portal is a helpful resource to access all general information at William Carey
Christian School. This includes grade and subject information, policies, forms, apps and handbooks
for parents and carers. To ensure the security of this information, access to the WCCS Family Portal
is password protected.

Access is gained using the parent/carer individual login (Edumate username and password). The
username is the parent/carer number + @wccsnsweduau.onmicrosoft.com.

Edumate and the School App:

Edumate and the School App are the way the school will communicate about school life,
newsletters, permission notes, teacher contact details etc. It is, therefore, very important that you
have access to Edumate, download the WCCS App and check the site weekly. The first significant
event requiring permission on the School App or Edumate will be the High School Swimming
Carnival, held on Wednesday, 7th February (Week 2).
You can go HERE for instructions on how the app works, and if required email if you are unsure of
your account ID and password.
Further access support can be sought by emailing [email protected]
The Year 7, 10, 12 Meet the Teacher Evening will be held on Wednesday 21 st February, with the Year
8, 9 and 11 Meet the Teacher Evening to be held on Monday 26th February. Further information
regarding the format of these evenings will follow in the School Newsletter, published through the
School App.
Should you have any further queries, please refer to the Parent/Carer Handbook (found on the
Family Portal or the WCCS App) in the first instance and thereafter to our School Office who will be
pleased to assist you. We look forward to seeing you on the first day of term.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Anthony Hudson Mrs. Rebecca Clisdell Mr. Phillip Kaye
