Fact-Finding for Hospital Information System Development
Scenario:
You have been appointed as a system analyst by a leading hospital, "HealthCare Haven," which operates
multiple facilities across the region. The hospital is committed to improving patient care and operational
efficiency by implementing an Information System tailored to its specific needs. The goal of this system
is to streamline various aspects of healthcare delivery, from patient management to medical records and
resource optimization.
HealthCare Haven Challenges:
HealthCare Haven has identified several challenges it wishes to address through the development of this
Information System:
Patient Management: The hospital faces challenges in efficient patient management, appointment
scheduling, and tracking patient records. There is a need for a system that simplifies these processes
and enhances patient care.
Medical Records: HealthCare Haven currently relies on paper-based medical records, leading to delays
and potential errors in accessing patient information. The hospital aims to transition to an electronic
health records (EHR) system for improved accuracy and accessibility.
Resource Optimization: The hospital wants to optimize resource allocation, including staff scheduling,
equipment utilization, and bed management. An integrated system is required to streamline these
processes and enhance overall efficiency.
Billing and Insurance: HealthCare Haven struggles with manual billing processes and insurance claim
submissions. The hospital seeks a system that automates billing, ensures accuracy, and facilitates
seamless communication with insurance providers.
Your Role:
As a system analyst, your primary responsibility is to gather essential information and requirements that
will inform the development of the Information System. To achieve this, you will conduct fact-finding
activities to gain insights from various stakeholders involved in HealthCare Haven's operations.

This is an individual assignment. This assignment is designed to provide learners with the opportunity to
exhibit their abilities in applying fact-finding techniques in the analysis phase of the system development
life cycle (SDLC).
1. Select at least two (2) fact-finding techniques (observation, interview, questionnaires, document
review or research) in your investigation. Give justification for using the techniques and write in
detail how you have applied the techniques.
2. Include all the information gathered from the fact-finding techniques such as interviews,
observations, and surveys into a comprehensive report. Organize the report into sections,
including stakeholder profiles, interview summaries, observations, and key findings.
3. Based on the fact-finding activities, provide recommendations for addressing challenges in
patient management, medical records, resource optimization, and billing processes.
