LESSON NAME: Urban Livelihood
SUBJECT: Civics

OVERVIEW
This session is based on the NCERT https://ncert.nic.in/textbook/pdf/fess309.pdf,and it
helps students learn about different types of workers and lifestyles in urban areas.
Learning objectives
*Understand why people come to urban cities
*Understand the nature of work in urban cities
*Differentiate the different types of workers.
ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTIONS
In slide 2,students have to segregate the things of rural areas and urban areas.
In slide 3, Students will learn about urban areas and lifestyle.
In slide 4, students have to guess why people move from rural areas to urban areas
in 5 seconds.
In slide 5 ,students have to imagine the situation and answer the question.
In the slide 6, students have to flip the card to know the answer to what are casual
workers.
In slide 7, students have to answer the mentioned question
In slide 8,students have to segregate characteristics.
In slide 9, students have to segregate the permanent workers from casual workers
by dragging the jobs of the permanent workers to the computer.
In the slide 10, students have to pick out the benefits of employers who employ
casual workers.
In the 10th activity on slide 11, students have to see the Youtube video on urban
livelihood.
Answers:
Answer to activity on slide 3 is: Urban areas: Big companies, Aero plane, Technology;
Rural area: Big farms, low literacy, Mud houses
The answer to activity on slide 4 is “In search of work”.
The answers to the activity slide 5th is that students will observe drastic differences,
like people with permanent have job security, but vegetable vendors and shop
owners do not have that. They earn less and live a hard life as compared to
permanent job workers.
The answer to activity on slide 7 are skills and educational qualification.
Answer to activity on slide 8th is: Temporary jobs: uncomfortable environment,
unsafe working environment, irregular salary. And te rest are of permanent jobs.
Answer to activity on slide 9 are: Casual workers: Mason, Seamstress, welder, brick
maker. Permanent workers: Accountant, manager, nurse, doctor.
