2 1 DOOR CONSTRUCTION, GENERAL

B. WDMA I.S.1-A Performance Grade:
1. Heavy Duty unless otherwise indicated.
2. Acoustical Door - Doors are to be 44 mm (1 3/4”) thick and tested as an operable unit in accordance with ASTME90 and ASTME
413.
3. Fire rated doors shall comply with applicable pressure requirements.
C. Fire-Protection-Rated Doors: Provide core specified or mineral core as needed to provide fire-protection rating indicated.
1. Edge Construction: Provide edge construction with intumescent seals concealed by outer stile where indicated in Division
8 Section “Door Hardware. “Comply with specified Tequireirents for exposed edges.
2. Pairs: Provide fire-retardant stiles that are listed and labeled for applications indicated without formed-steel edges
and astragals. Comply with specified requirements for exposed edges.
2.1 3. Finish steel edges and astragals with baked enamel same color as doors.
D. Mineral-Core Doors:
1. Core: Noncombustible mineral product complying with requirements of referenced quality standard and testing and
inspecting agency for fire-protection rating indicated.
2. Blocking: Provide composite blocking with improved screw-holding capability approved for use in doors of fire-protection
ratings indicated as needed to eliminate through-bolting hardware and as follows:
a. 125 mm (5-inch) top-rail blocking.
b. 125 rum (5-inch) bottom-rail blocking, in doors indicated to have protection plates.
c. 125 mm (5-inch) iridrail blocking, in doors indicated to have armor plates.
d. l 14-by-250-mm (4-1/2-by-10-inch) lock blocks; 125 mirl (5-inch) midrail blocking, in doors indicated to have exit
devices.
3. Edge Construction: At hinge stiles, provide laminated-edge construction with improved screw-holding capability and split
resistance. Comply with specified requirements for exposed edges.
a. Screw-Holding Capability: 2110 N per WDMA T.M.-10.
2.2 DOORS:
A. Solid Core Doors:
1. 1-3/4" thick stave lumber core. Mineral core for 60 to 90 minute rated doors. Core complied with commercial std. LS-23a›.
2. Top and edge bands: Match face veneer.
3. BTM band: Hard or soft wood.
4. Glue: Use CS 35 Type II for bonding core, use Type 1 (fully waterproof) for all other work. Exterior doors to have only
Type 1 adhesives used.

a. Textures and colors: to the selection of the engineer
b. Paint Finish: medium density hardboard overlay for smooth paint finish. See Drawing for paint type or types.
B. Hoilow Core Doors:
1. Construction: Standard Hollow core.
2. Cellular core includes lock blocks, top and bottom rails.
3. Edge bands: match face laminated.
4. Face laminated unless otherwise noted.
5. Glue: Use CS35 Type II for bonding core, use Type I for all other work.
2.3 DOORS FOR OPAQUE FINISH

A. Doors for Opaque Finish: Comply with the following requirements:
1. Grade: Premium.
2. Faces: Medium-density overlay over standard thickness, hardy face laminate for exterior doors; hardbOaTd for interior doors.

2.4 A. Light-Opening Flames:
1 . Wood beads.
2. Wood-veneered beads for fire doors.
2.5 HIGH PRESSURE LAMINATED FACED SOLID-CORE DOORS
A. Facing material shall be laminate high pressure laminated finish in pressing operation using a thermosetting adhesive over 6
mm MDF panels glued to both sides of core. Facing material shall extend flush and uniform, in both directions, between inner edges of
tipping. Extend facing in one piece; two jointing or splicing shall be permissible.
B. Facings shall be machine engraved to the pattern selected by the engineer.
C. After bonding and assembling, the entire door shall be abrasive planed before veneering.

D. Core particle board or none combustible mineral core for fire door as per manufacturer recommendation, thickness and
dimensions as shown on drawings
E. Frames: shall be as shown on drawings.
1. Hardwood frames (solid core beech wood) and lippings, with intumescent strips, unless otherwise specified.
F. Provide samples to Engineer for approval based on Drawings, schedules and Finish Data Sheets.
G. Size and thickness: as shown on drawings and details.
H. Finishes textures and colors: to the selection of the engineer.
