a. The Internet is one of the largest networks that link millions or trillions of computers all over
the world. Internet is one of the major reasons why people buy computers these days. More than
one billion people around the world use the Internet daily for a variety of reasons. This includes
reading news, searching information, chatting with other people, making friends, sharing data and
information, shopping, banking, playing games and listening to or watching movies.
b. A search engine is a software program which helps in finding websites. web pages, and
Internet files. Search engines are particularly helpful in locating web pages on certain topics or in
locating specific pages for which you do not know the exact URL.
c. Many search engines use a program called a spider to display a list of all web pages that
contain the word or phrase you entered to search for web page or website. Also called a crawler or
bot, a spider reads pages on websites in order to create a catalog, or index, of hits.

i. Browsing Through Categories:
You can browse through categories such as arts, science or sports to find information
that interests you. When you select a category of interest, a list of subcategories appears.

ii. Searching by Keyword: You can type a word into a search tool and a web page of your
interest. The search tool will display a list of webpages containing the word you specified.
